All this. I got fired from Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Store (NoLa, 1993) bc I wasn’t perky *enough*. Not unfriendly, just not over the top. With mostly drunk customers who couldn’t tell the difference. Meanwhile, boss lady was very prim and never smiled. Uh ok.

I know how to fold T-shirts tho.
There is something really wrong with people who need workers to be not just competent, but slavishly fake-happy. "Slavishly" used on purpose, bc that's where this grotesquerie comes from.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.

Given the state of things in the us right now, I think I’m up for at least trying the #pluribus virus.
November 8, 2025 at 1:30 PM
What I’m happiest about #pluribus is that it doesn’t appear to be a puzzle box show.

Instead, let’s just see a how regular person handles a **really** messed up situation.

To have Carol get gaslit by Mike Johnson - I mean Taffler - via cable news was brilliant.

We fine. Prices are fine.

Looks to me like when he’s not the center of attention, he goes into standby mode. Like no one programmed any concern for anyone else in his circuitry.
When you're a sociopath and get angry that someone else's medical emergency, just four feet away, drew focus from your gloating and you forget which lie you were on.

Maybe after Tuesday's results, we can get real net metering in VA.

The panels on our house produce more than we use. And yet, we pay Dominion a min of $9/month in what is basically an accounting fee. And they don't pay us for the surplus energy our panels produce.
Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

Youngkin so “successful” that all the major school districts told him to fuck himself and his anti trans unenforceable policies.

His greatest achievement was galvanizing our disdain for him while we waited out his low consequence single term.

For that, we have the Dem legislature to thank.
Q: A lot of Rs, including the Lt Gov, ran on keeping the good times going. Given the Lt Gov lost by 15, Rs are on track to lose more than a dozen House seats, is it possible Virginians don't see your admin the same way you do?

YOUNGKIN: I believe Virginians thoroughly support what we've been doing
November 5, 2025 at 3:08 PM
Every person who lives in NoVa knows a person like this. They only cross the bridge to go to The Italian Store or DCA but have the craziest takes.

To be clear : Youngkin was never popular. He squeaked a win on anger about school closures during COVID. The Biden/Youngkin voters imm regretted it.

Not that long ago Va was so gerrymandered this would have been unthinkable.

One more sleeve to go plus for some reason I’m not done with the neck.

Still a lil sad that I didn’t have enough of the orange yarn for the sleeves but the contrast sleeves are growing on me. It does look like a layered tshirt when I try it on.

Almost done with the body of this mesh, oversized sweater. I should knit with chunky yarn more often. It’s so gratifying when a project goes so quickly.

Yarn is Miss Babs K2 held with Moonglow to get a cozy, mossy feel.

So when I was at Tulane, the lore was that they put his research lab across the lake so undergrads couldn’t easily protest the animal testing they were doing.

So, you know, we couldn’t cause 28 days later. Anyway, who do I talk to to ride out the zombie apocalypse with Cillian Murphy?

One of the things I like about Bsky is being able to curate what you see. To that end, I’ve been creating my own feeds w a feed creator service.

I’ve been playing with a #knitting feed that only picks up common hashtags like #knitsky.

You’re about to finish the fantastic first book in a series a mere two weeks before the next one comes out.

How do you fill the void?

It cannot be overstated how much I loved Lost in Space reruns. I used to kinda wish Dr Robinson was my mom. RIP June!
RIP June Lockhart (1925-2025), aka Dr. Maureen Robinson in the original sci-fi series Lost in Space (1965–1968).

Another #showmeyourknits horror story: my one and only felt project.

The bag was a lot smaller than it should have been and it lost the rich color. Plus the felting itself was wonky.

I feel like felting has the potential to waste a lot of yarn so I never tried it again.

From 08. Using Ann Budd’s hat formula, I designed this hat based on something I saw in a magazine. Was for a friend who had lost a fav similar hat.

I failed to write out the pattern & she lost it within 48hrs when it fell out of her bike basket. We still cry over it.

Welp, guess we won’t even bother with this one. We’ll be sending our quirky genius elsewhere.

But srsly, UVA has always leaned this way. Go on with your pink polos and boat shoes, Trip.
absolutely shameful that the university has embraced the administration’s demand that it discriminate against its students. this is the board of visitors telling UVA students that if they aren’t white and cisgendered then they don’t belong.
The University of Virginia has capitulated to Trump on transgender and race (affirmative action) issues.

The details are currently sparse, but reporting suggests they've agreed to define trans people out of existence and ban trans students from facilities.

So we're supposed to think Platner is where Syril Karn would have landed had he not died immediately after realizing he was a bad guy the whole time?

I mean get it, I kept hoping he or Dedra Meero would turn. But, this story never goes that way.

When did vet clinics become like the mafia? The fast talking tech was totally trying to shake me down.

Pro tips: play up your ADHD and make them slow down. Peck out everything they say in the notes app. Slowly. Also GenX now that we’re 50+ we get to be overtly cranky. Use that to your advantage.

Almost done with the upper back of this sweater. I can’t decide if I like how the lace yarn is turning out - kinda looks like random dark thread woven around the stitches. Lot less noticeable in the bits if stockinette.

The yarn is a mossier green than my iPhone camera produces.

I spotted my hoodie in one of the photos :)

As massive as the turnout was in DC, there were tons of these smaller events all around the DMV. Ppl were coming and going constantly so difficult to say how large this crowd really was.
