First wood, then coal, then oil and gas. We just had to keep burning. But now we don’t.

In Scotland two families own more wealth than 1.3 million people.

We're one of the wealthiest countries in history, but that wealth is concentrated in the hands of a tiny few.

That's why a wealth tax on the super-rich is supported by an overwhelming majority of Scots.
STV News. Wealth tax on ten richest Scots 'could lift 30,000 children out of poverty'. A tax of 2% levied against those with assets worth £10m or more could bring in £492m a year from Scotland's ten richest families, study finds.

Simples. You reallocate space away from cars.

I'm on the slowest bus line in the city with the slowest buses in the nation to talk to New Yorkers about what it would mean for their lives if we made them fast and free.

Half of Scotland's land is owned by less than 1% of the people. We have some of the most unequal land distribution in Europe!

It's time to curb the power of super rich land hoarders and start giving ordinary Scots and communities new opportunities.

Oh look it’s that Clegg grifter again!

Who is he grifting for now? Over in the UK we had to joy of 14 years of austerity to thank him for. 😢

Don’t worry, it will happen again. Because we make no effort to control, ring fence or limit these dangerous devices.

Good news for Audi. Bad news innocent victims who are expected to make the sacrifice.

@policescotland.bsky.social any thoughts?

Badenoch and Co see education only as a means to a massive income in some soul destroying career.

Devoid of imagination and the power of knowledge they view life entirely through the prism of the CV.

My advice always is to study what interests you and the rest will follow

“Traffic” is not a force of nature, but a product of human choices - it doesn’t “have” to go “somewhere else”

This is because people switch modes (walk, cycle, bus) when those are made attractive, or shop locally (to avoid making a car journey) etc

It’s not a zero sum game

Studies of LTNs show that in the majority of cases, traffic is not displaced only to boundary roads but a lot of it is regionally displaced as folks find another route that works for them: in short, they are typically successful in their aims rather than only moving traffic to their perimeter.

I know this is uncomfortable to admit, but there is a small area in England's second city where people are just not integrated with the rest of society. Many of them hold views that arguably go against British values.

Yes, we need to talk about the Tory conference in Manchester.

And this plan does nothing to resolve the car problem.

@edinburghcouncil.bsky.social @stephenjenkinson.bsky.social

I quite regularly ride out to S. QF on a Sunday and yes it’s absolute mayhem. Maybe a km of cars parked up the hill, drivers using their horn at cyclists. Cars looping the sea front.

Passed through Queensferry on a sunny Sunday and it was literal carmageddon. Cars littered everywhere, blocking every nook and cranny. High time they were banned from a large proportion of the High St

The cobbles are currently not great for cycling on.

But as long as you are reducing car storage, increasing benches and providing cycle stands?
sbarlster.bsky.social
Literally bonkers. There is already not enough cycle parking. And not enough seating.
