Hi! I'm a professor emerita in Comp Lit, from the University of California, Riverside. I've written a bunch of books: 3 scholarly studies in 18th Century Lit as well as 3 magical realist novels, 3 poetry collections, and a how to write magical realism guide. I teach writing at various nonprofits.

this is something that individual members of Congress could do tomorrow. The government is shut down so they could use their district offices. I suggested in January that they turn those offices into full on community centers where people could find each other re: mutual aid etc...
If I were running the DNC, there would be Democratic Party sponsored food relief banks across the country right now that specifically welcomed anyone regardless of party affiliation.

I’ve seen a lot of hand wringing about the dangers of going to No Kings protests and gently, I want to tell people to chill a little. These are permitted marches and the point is to be out there and seen en masse. Please don’t scare off people who are maybe going to their very first protest
