I have no idea how anyone can make people understand this here. Authorities make new deals, news articles get zero engagement, and people look at you as if you’re slightly deranged if you try to point out the warning signs.
For many years #Palantir and #ICE. have been partners. Palantir has also been contracted by many EU member state governments. Palantir is making a profit with European tax payers’ money. Do we feel okay about that? (spoiler: we shouldn’t). No European government should work with Palantir

Every new decade this happens, I snortily laugh out even louder – and a tad more desperately – than the last. Disdainfully, but genuinely.

It isn’t difficult to hold 2 thoughts, side by side, at the same time:

The people of Iran deserve freedom, dignity, & protection from state violence.

The US & Israeli governments have caused great harm to Iranians and don’t have the best interests of the Iranian people in mind.

It's a flawed comparison, and I don't like the tendency to relate everything to the 30s.

But I’ve always wondered how I’d feel about those who supported Hitler’s rise as it happened, and the overarching feeling is how helpless enablers like this man are at understanding the consequences of actions.

What a hill to die on. The main predator bought it! What does she expect? A regime change through opposition and rebellion, leading to a bright and beautiful future? It's a website, not a country. It will slowly die as the next thing takes over.

Move on – there are plenty of ways to interact.

In retrospect, this will perhaps be remembered as one of the least successful Peace Prize awards.

Of course, it's impossible to know how Machado's win played out in Trump's mind, but it has certainly stirred something in him. And Machado is not doing her own reputation any favours these days.
The Norwegian Nobel Prize committee has been forced to make a statement, declaring that the prize cannot be transferred.
It's hard even to comprehend how stupid this has become

I don't get it. Did JD Vance share *this* clip in *support* of the claim that the agent had acted in self-defence – presumably knowing that anyone can put it together with the other videos showing how the wheels clearly steered away from the agents? How does that even compute?

The one thing I'm sure of: If Trump "takes over" Greenland, he will lose *all* support in Europe.

Sure, two or three weirdos will persist with wildly disproportionate press coverage. But make no mistake, a united Europe will despise Trump and his regime with a force hitherto unknown. Some feat!
Trump just said if he does not "take over" Greenland, Russia and China will do so. He said "we will doing something with Greenland either the nice way or the hard way." He said US must "own" Greenland because otherwise it's like a rental or lease.

Ugh. But at the same time, I hope you’ll encourage your followers to boost any actual suggestions about who or what might stop him – something we all really do need!
Looking forward to another year of everyone saying someone has to stop him.

Indeed. Where are the fearless people? The rebels, the heroes, the role-models? Compartmentalized in social media clicks?

And there’s only one of those positions in the world.
Yet he’s still speaking out and risking reprisal.
Where are 90% of the others in entertainment, music, movies etc?

From the outside, a tiny part of me hopes the U.S. implodes over things like the ICE killing, so focus turns inward instead of wreaking havoc abroad.

Then I realize how dangerous that would be. Still, there is a tipping point where the world is better off without the U.S. as a destabilizing force.

Uavhengig av hvor sannheten ligger, ville jeg stolt mer på politikere og administrasjon som sa "oi, se her, ja – dette er ny informasjon som vi må se nærmere på om påvirker konklusjonen"?

Svaret er ja.

$10,000? Greenlanders have universal health care, amongst a billion other welfare services. How many U.S.-style hospital bills would that cover – a general consultation?
The White House is considering sending lump sum payments to Greenlanders as part of a bid to convince them to secede from Denmark and potentially join the US, @reuters.com reports.

The figures being discussed range from $10,000 to $100,000 per person.

This is tangential at best, but it just reminded me that when it comes to planning, Europe is primarily constrained by technocracy, while the U.S. problem feels more like anocracy. Or "a-plenty-cra(z)y," if you will...
Are we stuck in a cycle of "planning for failure"?

In Mathew Burrows’ review of Elizabeth Saunders' (@profsaunders.bsky.social) "The Insiders’ Game," he draws a sharp parallel between the "insider" dynamics of today and the decision-making failures of the Vietnam era.

I'm realizing that splitting my social media life between things I enjoy (Mastodon) and news and politics that frustrate me (Bluesky) makes me look like a denialist disconnected from reality on one, and a humorless gloom-monger on the other.

Good thing I'm just talking to myself here, then. 😄
