The headline, the main takeaway from a European viewpoint is this:

The transatlantic relationship as we know it is over. Yes, we kinda knew this. But this is now official US White House policy. Not a sppech, not a statement. The West as it used to be no longer exists.

As far as I can see, this nat sec strategy is far harsher on Europe than on Russia. There is no mention of a threat from Russia or of deterrence, only that "re-establishing strategic stability" is a priority. Europe is cast as a major threat to freedom. A radical, dangerous document.

Things this NSS is not: conservative, Republican, strategic, reality-based, credible, American.

Will they actually follow the NSS? probably not, no. Is it still bad they let the turbo chuds write US national security policy? yes

Michael, why do you hate the future? Do you want China to win? If we don't subsidize the jenkem habits of ten thousand """entrepreneurs""" whose best day is reinventing the harop-2, then Taipei may as well be Beijing!

Let's be clear here.

The Trump administration does not actually want Europe to be able to independently take care of its own security.

They want to maintain a system of vassal states who are dependent on American weaponry, but in a new order that no longer comes with protection guarantees from 🇺🇸.
Top US official berates Europe over cutting American industry out of defense buildup
Washington is unhappy that some European arms programs limit U.S. participation.
