Feels slightly unreal being back on Scilly after 22 years. Saw the Wilson's Phalarope and Rosy Starling, but it was Cetti's Warbler and Cattle Egret that were Scilly ticks! #ukbirding

Another reason for visiting the Isles of Scilly (UK) is the opportunity of being up close with the large shearwaters and other sea-birds which are increasingly in these south west waters for some months of the year, thanks to Joe and the Scilly Pelagics team...🪶🐬 #ukbirding

Nice to find this Rustic Bunting with the Mrs this evening on St Martin’s, Isles of Scilly. A subtle bird, in some ways, compared to obvious autumn males. Looks to be same bird found on St Agnes yesterday when comparing feather details. #ScillyBirding

Nice views of the Wilson’s Phalarope today on Porthellick Pool, Scilly. 1st October ‘25.

My first for Scilly and seventh overall for Cornwall.

A couple of lovely nearctic waders recently delivered to Scilly by the early autumn westerly gales.

Pectoral sandpiper, Porth Hellick.

Buff-breasted sandpiper, St. Mary’s Airfield.

Western Bonelli’s Warbler, present for its sixth day, showing very well in the Garrison Dead Pines this morning.

Scilly’s 34th record of WBW - undoubtedly one of, if not the, most reliable place to see the species in Britain.

Two lovely nudibranchs from Porthcressa Bay, Isles of Scilly.

Judging by the length of the skull/jaws it’s most likely a short-beaked common dolphin

…he is a talented long-distance runner (coastal trail running, not road running) and is incredibly driven and motivated by his personal goals and challenges. We appreciate guidelines, but not everyone fits in the box. We work with him to plan his endurance events based on his ability.
scottinscilly.bsky.social
Thanks for your concern. This was not an organised event. My son has been running since he was six years old & has been setting himself endurance challenges since the age of 8. He has to date completed 55km in 5 days, a half marathon, & recently a triathlon, having raised upwards of £8k for charity

The excellent start to the Scilly Pelagic season continued last night with a great showing of 20 Wilson’s storm-petrels, 14 Cory’s shearwaters, and a 1s Sabine’s gull #seabirds #scillybirds #ukbirding

Our 10 year old son, Orkney, will attempt his first triathlon today on the Isles of Scilly 💪 raising money for Marine Conservation Society 🦑 and Island Haven ☀️

He will swim 0.5km 🏊 , cycle 20km 🚲 and run 10km 🏃‍♂️

Please sponsor him and show him your support 🙌

A superb Scilly stormie session last night with 35 European storm-petrels ringed & released in just under two hours, a good total considering a 77% waxing moon.

Our small team of helpers did a brilliant job, several of them enjoying their first ever stormie experience 🙌

#WorldSeabirdDay Back in March I visited Fogo where, during c.50hrs birding at sea & a night of research in the foothills of Pico do Fogo, I enjoyed the most intimate of experiences with the ultimate seabird - the Fea’s Petrel (Pterodroma feae).

A lifelong ambition fulfilled 🇨🇻

More excellent pelagic birding off Scilly yesterday with 6 Wilson’s storm-petrels, 6 Cory’s, 1 great & 1 sooty shearwater, amongst dozens of local Euro stormies & Manxies.

Getting ‘the big three’, & multiple Wilson’s in one photo frame, in June is absurd!
