As 2025 draws to a close, I'm thinking about the women who came before me whose stories sparked my passion for family history. I owe them so much. This photo is of three generations at Christmas 1958, a year after they arrived in Canada from Scotland.

Edinburgh memory: delicious mince and tatties, a staple of my childhood diet, at Kay's Bar last year. My grand uncle lived in the tenements in Jamaica Lane - long since torn down for being in a terrible state - in the 1950s and would have walked past Kay's Bar, then a wine merchants, every day.
