hi! i'm an animation professional who doesn't draw enough outside work. when i do, half the time it's something activisty. sometimes i do fan art, too.
Drawing of a clenched fist holding a carabiner attached to a chain wrapped around the wrist. in the background are old growth trees. The text reads "SAVE FAIRY CREEK" Drawing of an enormous excavator looming over a bottle depot, a small apartment building, and a house. The text reads "STOP PORT LIVING! DEFEND BROADWAY-CAROLINA" Fan art of Walther Caspari's "The Demon of Discord" (1899). A woman with long black hair walks away from a pile of skulls in a barren landscape. In the distance are tall skinny trees with spiked balls at the top. Fan art of Anakin Skywalker with his hair on fire. Ahsoka and Obi-Wan look on in shock, they are surrounded by blaster fire and the 501st Clone Army. Based on a "chaotic night club" photo.

Yeah... eventually I have taken to just saying "selected projects" or whatever and only listing the ones that are more relevant / flashiest haha (I mean, you are doing similar in some of them, which works fine)

Yeah, rebuilding the domestic industry beyond simply service work is going to have to be the way forward, but every broadcast/streaming business model is real busted right now. It's gonna be a long struggle to find something really workable again

Looking for the return of The Teletoon Model in which shows got government funding and they could be made start-to-finish up here

I also had the privilege of doing some work on the opening title sequence of this show too- the scene in the thumbnail (i animated Kevin, Armando, and Cupcake in that shot)

On the plus side there is, as yet, no movement towards any AI adoption within studios, and if we're lucky the whole edifice will collapse before that becomes a genuine risk

Yeah, it's not ideal. But it's based on what TAG was able to get in their latest collective agreement (ie. we only got as much as we did because they got that) - and that was the most they could get from AMPTP who basically wouldn't budge at all. And there just wasn't the leverage for a strike
scribblechris.bsky.social
There's only so many places where talent congregates.... we just gotta catch'em all. Easier said than done, of course. Part of our collective agreements involve a measure of outsourcing protection, but like you say, there's only so much one can do against clients making that choice

I'm quoted in this piece! It's about how and why animation workers have been forming so many unions in Vancouver the last few years ☺️

Vancouver’s film and TV industry is facing one of its ‘toughest slowdowns’ ever. Animators and visual effects workers are unionizing to take back control:

“It’s time to level the playing field for the workers ... so they can have more of a say, more control and a democratization of their workplace”

Canadian animators and visual effects workers aren’t giving up during turbulent times, they’re organizing their workplaces and unionizing

In the interest of self-preservation I need to start reiterating: my current contract with KO_OP ends late Nov, and I'm looking for my next gig! I'm a game/narrative designer, writer, & generalist with lots of implementation experience in Unity, some in Unreal, knowledge of C#, Python, and more.

This whole “don’t take the bait” narrative being spun up by the resist account networks is pure counter insurgency. If fascists are trying to do violence against you and your community by all means protect yourself in any way you can. Do not comply in advance and “do nothing” in the face of fascism.

Brutal
That's a sick picture though. Hope you clear out the eyeballs soon

the only comic discourse I care about
A comic titled "How to Draw Comics," in which a serene looking being is stood before a table, on which is a single sheet of paper and a pencil. The being is staring at us.

They then peek down at the sheet of paper, and the POV switches to that of the being, so we can see what is on the page. A single word is written there:

"Don't"

The POV switches back, but is closer on the being's strangely serene face as they continues staring at the page.

They then stare directly at us, the serene face implying the opposite.

They do this thing where instead of blurring bg/fg elements like you've seen in almost every show for the past 15 years, they use hatching to break up and "blur" the outlines of elements that aren't in focus and it's SO COOL but also because it's so new it takes me out of things for a second like ✨️👀

I finally started watching "City: The Animation" last night and is it weird to say I'm almost distracted by how good it looks?

Like the animation is excellent, and the boarding and design choices are really exciting stabs at manga-influence-- but I'm admiring so much it feels like I miss jokes! Lol

I had a phase when I was listening to harsh noise a lot at work, and it bled from my headphones a little. The elevator in the studio was being repaired and a coworker was like "Chris what are you listening to?"

(Similarly, one time I heard a woodshipper from a block away and was like 👀👂)

🇨🇦 CANADIANS:
Sign this House of Commons petition to withdraw bill C-2!
The bill is bad, the petition is quick and easy.

Thank you, @jennykwan.bsky.social

👉 ✒️ www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en...
Screenshot of the linked page, text below:

Petition to the House of Commons
Whereas:
- Bill C-2, titled the “Strong Borders Act”, contains provisions that threaten fundamental rights and freedoms protected under Canadian and international law;
- The Bill would grant law enforcement and national security agencies warrantless access to Canadians’ historical associations with organizations and businesses;
- It would allow authorities to compel the disclosure of sensitive personal information, including geolocation data and contact details, based merely on suspicion of relevance to the investigation of offences under Acts of Parliament, regardless of individual involvement;
- The Bill is designed to facilitate Canada's alignment with the United States' CLOUD Act and the United Nations Cybercrime Convention, raising serious concerns about foreign access to Canadians’ private data, including by regimes with poor human rights records; and
- Bill C-2 undermines Canada’s obligations under international human rights instruments, particularly in relation to privacy rights and the fair treatment of migrants and refugees.

We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to:
1. Immediately withdraw Bill C-2 in its entirety;
2. Reaffirm Canada’s commitment to privacy, civil liberties, and international human rights standards;
3. Reject any legislative or policy initiatives that would enable foreign states, including the United States, to gain undue access to Canadians’ personal information; and
4. Ensure that national security and border-related legislation upholds the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and is subject to meaningful judicial oversight.

Risk increases with each subsequent infection.

After your 3rd you have a 30% chance of long term issues.
