That and regularly kidnapping, imprisoning, and killing Karzai supporters at the behest of other Karzai supporters who had old scores to settle from the 90s civil war and who found out just saying “those guys are Taliban” not only settled them but got you money and guns
Hot take: JSOC (mainly ST6 in Afghanistan) may have destroyed a path to victory there. Nightly war crimes, canoeing innocents, etc. Terrorized the civilian population and radicalized them against the government. We stabbed ourselves in the back by letting that unit operate with 0 accountability.

A Coen brothers “Night of the Hunter”
bring back NBC's Kings
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

It's time to end the arguments, they've gone on much too long. Here is the definitive ranking of Star Wars:

1. Star Wars (film, 1977)
2. Star Wars (comic book series, 1977-present)
3. Star Wars (video game, 1983)
4. Star Wars (novelisation, 1976)
5. Star Wars (proposed missile defence system, 1983)

Difficult to overstate how profound a failure DOGE was. Spending in FY2025 was not only than in FY2024 – but higher than it was projected to be when Trump first took office.*

The little bit of spending DOGE cut has already killed hundreds of thousands and will eventually lead to millions of deaths.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

I sometimes am ashamed of my country’s leaders but you know what? At least we don’t have to call our rich failsons “Lord”
There are some truly unhinged bits in the piece about Glasman, as to be expected when dealing with Glasman, but seriously what the actual? That's...one hell of a conflation of terminology.

Since January, a dynamic has emerged:

• DHS has repeatedly appealed to Christianity and scripture to justify its mass deportation efforts

• Some of the fiercest *critics* of DHS’ actions — to the point of protests and arrests — have been Christian clergy religionnews.com/2025/11/15/a...

The vast body of research that Ken Burns relied upon to make his new documentary on the American Revolution would be practically impossible to be produced today, what with the defunding of humanistic scholarship, the collapse of stable academic jobs, the attack on public history & academic freedom.🗃️

Even at his most lapsed I would say all of Marty’s movies are at least thematically Catholic even if the theme is only “these guys sure aren’t good Catholics”
Potentially hot take?: Mean Streets is a Christian film, and Charlie's character portrays what it means to live as a "monk in this world" as Dostoevsky would say

The Christian right for decades has fear-mongered that federal agents (under Dem presidents) would "criminalize" Christianity and literally prevent them from worshipping.

Now that Trump's stormtroopers are doing it ... crickets
Here’s a story for every national news outlet:

In N.C., churchgoers are literally running into the woods as federal agents descend on the property.

“Inside the church, women and children sobbed as they wondered whether their loved ones had been taken.”

FWIW, I've reached out to the Alliance Defending Freedom and the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty — groups that have long touted their support for religious freedom — about things such as the treatment of clergy, alleged inability of ICE detainees to access religious rites, etc.

No response yet.

Spike Lee just blessed Pope Leo with a custom Knicks jersey during his visit to the Vatican, just one week after the Pope was gifted a custom Chicago Bulls one.

What if strongly held views actually help you move fickle voters and even when elections?
I know this is deeply unfashionable but IMO politics largely consists of two things:

— Pandering to the fickle views of the voters to try to win elections

— Handling a series of tedious technical issues that most people don't care about or understand well

Having strongly held views not helpful.
I was going to say — I don't think this is a failing at all, it's way better than all the leftist intellectuals on here with their inflexible ideological dogmatism.

This has been my exact trajectory except I’ve never been to a charismatic catholic service. I’ve had to reevaluate a lot of my priors over the years but I’ve been right about Bill Clinton since the second grade
I hated Bill Clinton when I was a deeply conservative Charismatic Catholic child. I hated Bill Clinton when I was a relatively conservative adult. Now that I'm a radical left lunatic, I still hate that philandering cad Bill Clinton and if he's in the files, he needs to go to jail.
Buuuuuuut, Bill Clinton…

Seriously, if so, IDGAF.

Jail them all.
