As a theoretical cosmologist, I'm frequently asked "what is the benefit of the work you're doing for people's lives?" Nothing I work on makes money or cures disease.
There are a few different answers one can give, at various levels of "convincing" / "actually relevant to why the work is done."

Do any physics teacher folks know of any PER papers or papers in TPT about the use of/effectiveness of TIPERs? I thought I had some PDFs somewhere but can't find 🎢

At our school Ss can choose chem or forensics as their 3rd year science. I’ve long advocated for a stronger push for chem as the ratio has become 1:3 with as many as six sections of forensics in a year.
This has been my first year of teaching forensics and I’ll admit, I’m having a blast. BUT 1/8

Fun fact: bonafidemasks.com has a 25% off sale (code BFM25) with free shipping, where you can get not just masks but also Covid tests. I have a good supply of masks already but I just re-upped my family's stock of tests. $45 for 10 tests.
Not a paid promo, I just think public health is a good thing

Hey physics teacher 🎢 friends, let's all remember that if you're not explicitly, regularly communicating that everyone has a place and a voice in your classroom, not all of your students will see themselves as having a place and a voice in your classroom #nerdytshirtFriday

There's a lot of money to be made selling "education" materials, therefore obviously the only solution is that the only materials we can consider high quality are the ones sold by a vendor because that's how capitalism works
I hate this so much for you and your colleagues. Poor curriculum, under the guise of "high quality instructional materials" is doing so much damage.

Kinda the most literally conservative position we could take—conservative in the sense that it’d be true to a Founding Ideal—is that education is preparation for civic life and self-governance, not work.
This is the conclusion lawmakers come to before structurally ensuring it through deliberate policy action. So which kids are on the McDonald's and retail career track, who makes that decision for students, and perhaps most importantly, who determines the nature of that work?
A lawyer for Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman asked a rural superintendent, “What use would someone on the McDonald’s career track have for Algebra 1?” before concluding, “There’s a need for retail workers, for people who know how to flip a pizza crust.” www.inquirer.com/opinion/comm...

It's well past time for everyone outside of Cleveland to celebrate Larry Doby. If you don't know, he was the first Black player in the American League, same season as Jackie Robinson but a few months later (today is anniversary of his debut in 1947)
