A unanimous “no” from the School Board on SFUSD’s Fiscal Stabilization Plan says a lot.

The issue? Rushed process and too little community engagement.

We don’t care that the next open School Board seat is short-term. Even six months of leadership can shape budget decisions and the future of SFUSD.

That’s why we’re hosting a virtual forum for the June candidates on Jan 7. RSVP 🔗⬇️

SF Parents has been pushing for smart budgeting since 2021. SFUSD just climbed out of the state’s worst financial category after $114M in cuts. Balanced budget by March? We’ll stay involved, raise concerns, and co-create solutions that put students first. www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/s...
SFUSD escapes worst fiscal rating, but looming cuts and a strike threat cloud recovery
After spending several years on the brink of fiscal insolvency, the San Francisco school district’s financial bottom line is showing the first real signs of progress since 2021.

UPDATE: 8th Grade Algebra & SFUSD — Here’s the Real Story

Parents met with SFUSD officials today. Despite concerns raised in this week’s @sfstandard.com article, the 8th grade algebra restoration is ON TRACK for Fall 2026.

Here’s what we learned: 🧮

Millions took to the streets yesterday to be heard and that matters.

But the real work happens everyday in our communities. Get organized, lead with love, and move in solidarity.

We got us.

For community college students, “online classes are here to stay,” Daniel Seddiqui, a youth employment counselor, writes. But some “just aren’t getting the three-dimensional experience of college life that would help them become well-rounded professionals.”
Opinion | Community Colleges Need Community
In our increasingly digital world, online classes are here to stay. But there’s no substitute for being on campus.

SFUSD’s 2024-25 data release: mixed so far, but overall not exactly the best we can do for our students.

Unclear if SFUSD has learned anything about engaging the parent and student community BEFORE making massive decisions like this….

One of our founders, Meredith Dodson, just donated some of her education, activism, and leadership books to our staff & parent leader office.

What are some of your favorites that we should add to our library? #edequity #raisethebar #closethegap

“They needed someone who would inspire confidence,” -Meredith Dodson, executive director of SF Parents. “Maria Su was the only person who would instill that feeling of, ‘We’re going to be OK.’ She does know how to navigate the city system and the politics, and she does care deeply about kids.”
🏫 NEW, SCHOOL BOSS: Maria Su knows City Hall. She ran SF's childrens dep't for 18 yrs. Then in crisis last fall SFUSD named her new superintendent. So far she’s earned praise, but big cuts kick in after summer. How far can the goodwill go? @idamoj.bsky.social reports thefrisc.com/sfusds-new-b...
SFUSD’s New Boss Got a 6-Month ‘Honeymoon.’ Now Deep Budget Cuts Are Coming
Superintendent Maria Su has avoided teacher layoffs, slashed central office staff, and promised to ‘make magic happen.’ The real test starts this fall.

In Mayor @daniellurie.bsky.social words today:

“SF Parents helped change the culture and narrative of this City”

That’s right. And we’re not done fighting for SF’s kids. Thanks to everyone who made it out today for our spring celebration of our schools & parent wins!

Good read. It's infuriating to listen to the insulting rhetoric about the schools. There are problems and those who stay aren't saying there aren't. However the answer isn't to throw one's hands up and insult the system without ever walking through the doors.

A great article that tracks my family’s experience with SFUSD. Our district has challenges, but also so much to offer our kids!

(I do wish @sfstandard.com had asked an SFUSD parent to write about it rather than an uninformed, childless intern from a white-flight Chicago suburb…)
