Pleased to share our latest preprint examining the impact of glucodynamic variability on cognition. Hamish Deery shows that it is not the size of the energy budget per se, but the dynamic use of glucose & its coherence into metabolic networks that are important for cognition. #neuroskyence

Brain glucodynamic variability is an essential feature of the metabolism-cognition relationship https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.04.30.651418v1

What does parenthood, depression, and psychedelics do to your brain? Very proud to see Winnie Orchard joining this stellar grp of Aussie neuros @lenaedibrainz.bsky.social @lucacocchineuro.bsky.social ky.social & @drbreaky.bsky.social for a FREE public lecture in June. @ohbmofficial.bsky.social

🧩New study: "Network Constraints on 𝘪𝘯 𝘷𝘪𝘷𝘰 Synaptic Alterations in Schizophrenia"

medrxiv.org/content/10.1...

We map a prominent brain-wide pattern of synaptic defects in people with Schizophrenia using PET, then model the molecular, cellular & connectomic features shaping this pattern 🧵1/3👇

🧵 How do psychedelics shape brain activity?

Our new paper presents the largest neuroimaging study of psilocybin to date—revealing how context structures psychedelic brain states.

Title: Psychedelics Align Brain Activity with Context

Congrats to Winnie Orchard & @sidchop.bsky.social on their new #ParentalBrain paper, now out in PNAS! They find evidence for the neuroprotective effect of parenthood for women AND men! 👩‍🍼👨‍🍼🧠 It's lovely work, and I'm proud to have played a tiny role in it. Read it here 👇 #neuroskyence #neuroimaging

Pleased to share our new #MetabolicConnectivity paper! We used #simultaneousPETMR to show that MC has ⬆️ utility for age & cognition prediction vs #fMRI FC. A bit surprising but it's more evidence of the utility of #fPET & MC as a measure of #BrainConnectivity 🧠⚛️ doi.org/10.1093/brai... #neuroskyence
Metabolic connectivity has greater predictive utility for age and cognition than functional connectivity
Deery et al. report that there is a reconfiguration of metabolic brain networks in ageing that is different to haemodynamic alterations and is more strongl

I have a paper in review with an ex-student as 1st author. The last version had a line in acknowledgemts that he’d used AI to assist phrasing. This gave me pause & a 1st for me, but the content is his/ours, & it’s openly acknowledged, so I guess it’s ok ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ? Interested to see where this goes

The skills & time needed to collect imaging data is often undervalued eg study design, community engagement, inclusive recruitment & testing practices, listening to participants, data organization etc 1/

lol no clearly not, and they even spelled my name incorrectly. By the time I got past the paywall I could see they just copied the first 2 sentences from my Uni profile. We complained and they removed me from the article apparently

Proud to have been featured as one of the trailblazing Indian-Australian women in STEM in Victoria.

I consider this a real achievement considering I am not Indian
