Es geht darum, soziales Engagement in den Dreck zu ziehen. Man will Organisationen, die gelegentlich kritisch auftreten, mundtot machen. Dazu bewirft man alle mit Dreck, selbst das Rote Kreuz, Licht ins Dunkel oder die Wohnungslosenhilfe. Das ist mehr als schäbig.

a) the liquor store doesn't get to scan your ID and store a digital copy of it forever in a database that will inevitably get hacked

There are at least five six new-build developments near where I live comprising hundreds of homes. Every house is hooked up to fossil gas; not one has solar or a heat pump; every one has a black tile roof that absorbs heat, pumping it into the house.
