About a year ago I finally started reading Japanese books on my own! I am on my third now! Thought it would be a fun idea to document interesting/funny words or phrases I find! Not sure how many that will be. I also might not always get the meaning correct lol Sometimes, it's hard to find it!

To paraphrase Terry Pratchett:
Evil is when you treat people like things. Period. That's how it starts, and it leads to far worse.

Progress on the final piece. Slowly but surly coming along!

My studio space is not hip or glamorous, sorry. 😅

Maybe I should do a very unglamorous studio tour someday? 🤔😅

I get the joke here, but it is important to stress to folks that we're taught a lot of stuff that most of us will never use, because:

1. learning it makes you better prepared for whatever path your career eventually takes, and

2. learning abstract math trains one's brain to *think*, in general

Professional societies keep beclowning themselves buying into a lie about what an LLM "summary" is. They are inherently counterfeit: not an epistemic product of the ideas in the source, but summary-shaped text linguistically based on *other* works (in the training corpus) that use related language.
This is one of the reasons I remain horrified by seeing @historians.org suggest "ways to use gAI" that included this:

There is not a single thing in my life or career I've integrated the 'AI experience' into willingly, and not a single thing in my life or career that's been improved by having AI unwillingly shoved into it. I don't know why there's a demand for this.

What a difference 10 years makes @fallout.bethesdastudios.com 💕🐾. One of our first outfits we did for Cat Cosplay was a Vault Suit back when Fallout 4 was announced. Our builds feel a lot more S.P.E.C.I.A.L. now!

Remember that in the winter of 2020-2021, we *made a whole strain of influenza extinct* by staying home more and wearing masks when we went out.
A lot of people are sick right now.

Flu and Covid are raging, but the good news is a well fitted respirator can prevent both!

A good mask like an N95 is very effective at stopping flu and Covid.

My article looks at how to choose one, how to fit test, where to buy & more.

Mask up & save lives!
We’re Witnessing the Fall of Public Health… and Your Best Tool is a Mask
Measles in Texas, bird flu in Louisiana, tuberculosis in Kansas and Covid everywhere. Public health has been dying a slow death for years, we can’t count on it anymore. What can we count on? A mask!

I was really proud when I slowly got to the point of understanding a detective Conan book in Japanese without actively translating it with just looking up a word or so a page. Then I read a book with Heiji and his Osaka dialect... まだまだですね~🥹

I understand that a lot of folks have been misled by fear-mongering and powerful regressive voices but it’s still astonishing to me that so many have fallen for the idea that oppressively policing other people’s gender identity and expression could in any way be part of an enlightened future.

AI has actively made life worse for literally everyone

- tech is now more expensive
- you cannot trust most media of reality anymore
- programs barely function
- energy prices
- literal psychosis
- your voice can be literally stolen for evil
- more spyware

but hey, you can avoid paying an artist.

Today an old song by the German rapper Curse came on while I was grocery shopping and for some reason, these lyrics kinda stuck with me: "Und wer zuletzt lacht hat's vielleicht nur zu spät gerafft?" (And the one having the last laugh might just have gotten it a bit late) Dunno, seems fitting

A few heatmaps for hemisphere sampling. From top left to righ: Cosine weighted, uniform, power cosine weighted sector, weighted combination of the three. Each cell shows the density (samples/area). Really like how you can see the expected gradients, but the randomness still is visible! :)
