This evening's update from the U.S. National Hurricane Center on #Melissa is ominous, and explicitly mentions: "catastrophic and life-threatening flash flooding...extensive infrastructural damage...and potentially prolonged isolation of communities" in both Jamaica & Haiti.

This extra height & heat will amplify the torrential tropical downpours. Many spots (esp hills) will see over 3 feet of rain with cascading flash flooding and mudslides. So despite winds 150+, the threat of rain flooding (and surge) may prove to be even more threatening.

Ooh, Aspen is a name I considered before choosing Aria as my new name! I like the gender neutrality and references to trees and their climate niche. And I love names that start with vowels.
