OK, whew, I'm seeing a LOT of confusion about this. The Court did not hold that transgender people are not a protected class. Did not. Yes, that matters. Holdings are harder to undo. Here's the key paragraph.

Northwestern has not received any NIH funds since March. No written communication about why or what can be done. Thank you Ben Singer for raising awareness at #ATS2025

As someone who has written a little about performance and legislative politics, I am begging people to stop using "performative" pejoratively. Politics *is* performance. All human interaction is performance.

Via "One First," I take a quick look at (some of) the legal questions arising out of the arrest, detention, and potential removal of Mahmoud Kahlil; why the government might have at least a *bit* of a leg to stand on; and why that's deeply troubling unto itself:

What is the legal status of ICPSR/NACJD?

It has the National Prisoner Stats, NCRP, NCVS, the wonky State Court Processing Stats, and a bunch of others.

Is it, like IPUMS, more or less above all this?

(Most?) crime data should be safe at Jacob Kaplan's OpenICPSR site:

I've spent the last couple of years w/ young people in Chicago for research on illegal gun carrying. Here're reflections from them (& seasoned experts) and how they've reshaped my thinking on gun research and policy. vitalcitynyc.org/articles/a-better-conversation-on-guns @vitalcitynyc.bsky.social
Vital City | A Better Conversation on Guns
For the U.S. to make lasting progress against firearm violence, it must change the way it talks about — and talks to — people who carry.
