I may not be as colourful as my avatar, but I do have better posture.
I'm intending to post a mixture of daily lies, and whatever other stuff - serious or nonsense - comes to my attention. Obviously, my real-world name is a closely-guarded secret.

Rules for Happier Internetting:
1. Block fuckwits
2. Block asshats
3. Block people who /tolerate/ fuckwits or asshats

Just 1 and 2 are good, but they are not sufficient.
That's workable, and would let me admit a lot more of the nonsense into my game than I currently do. Could be very useful, because there's a lot of cool-looking material with stupid fluff content and vice versa.

Thank you, David
BORING: Assigning "levels of canon" to Star Wars media.

NOT BORING: Construing all Star Wars media as variously motivated propaganda which actually exists in some notional Star Wars universe, often only tenuously related to real events, and loudly speculating about what "really happened".

Approximately 17% of secretary birds are only secretary birds part-time. The rest of the time, they are telegraph poles.

I am by no means the only one to immediately think, "Someone should totally write a story where there's a murder at the seminar."
My favourite fact about Iceland is that we have many, many crime writers but only one forensic pathologist, and he was so busy answering all of their questions that he decided to have a small seminar for writers to get some peace.

It immediately sold out so he had another one that also sold out.

I might have seen my first YouTuber out in the wild this evening. If one of the Numberphile/Computerphile peeps (being intentionally vague, but they did a video recently) was at King's Cross Station at about dinnertime, that was them.

The intertubes are leaking!

Bit of a belated reply so I'm reposting, because I think this is an interesting question.

Not sure these count as /mechanics/ though... I think but some of the old random encounter tables we used to have were on to something. They probably got removed because they felt too restrictive

Old-school TTRPG fans - what's one mechanic from earlier editions that you wish more modern games would bring back? #ttrpg #dnd

#StarWars scenario hook #43 - The Little Black Book

Haven't done a scenario hook in a little while. This one has the twist that the adventure reward includes an item with a minor game-mechanical benefit, something that doesn't come up very often in Star Wars.

bathmat (n.)

This onomatopoeic word is the sound made by striking a wet sheep with a carpet-beater.

Animals have more uses than just fighting them. Have a cute friendly animal that pesters the PCs; then when one of these poor widdle fluffy critters is found horribly killed by the scenario monster, the characters will have some extra motivation.

Leaflet Publications are great for blogs.

Now with Looseleafs you can do more Medium-style or gdocs-style publishing too!

This ALSO makes it perfect for Bluesky longposting! Share > 300 chars, w/o the limitations of a thread.

Just go to leaflet.pub/new + publish as looseleaf!

There is no such thing as 'too many books'. Although 'house too small' and 'floor not strong enough' are two important things to watch out for.
Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

Barroom brawls have a set of unwritten rules. If you want to run one, you (and the PCs) should know them. PCs with local knowledge, or a sufficient level of streetwise, brawling, history, cultures or other relevant skill will automatically understand this stuff.

There's a bunch of missing options on the list:

0 - Never
-1 - Never, even to someone I disliked
-2 - Never, even to someone I wanted to sabotage
-3 - Actively discourage
-4 - Would go out of my way to discourage
-5 - Would go out of my way to discourage use of all MS products

Yep, it's -5 here.
Why yes, @microsoft.com, I will HAPPILY provide you feedback on how exactly I feel about Word right now.

Just as some jokes are only 'funny once', shopping sessions fall into the 'fun once' category. If a player enjoys shopping sessions and likes to do them regularly, they should play a merchant character. Then haggling and deal-making is part of the character and they

If autocorrect introduces as many mistakes as it removes, it's simply worthless, so turn it off.

If autocorrect mostly corrects simple, harmless mistakes, but introduces important, subtle, dangerous mistakes, it's not worthless, it's actively harmful, so if this happens DEFINITELY turn it off.

OK?

Whataver helps inspire you to understand what a character is like is helpful. Songs and music can excel at this. Choose a song, any song, then ask what the character would be like if that was 'their' song. They don't even have to be important - anyone can have a song.

Every native English speaker who snores has to choose their own personal snore from the Great Library of Snores at Newport Pagnell. The equivalent European institution is based in Rouen. Other nationalities do not snore.

Be prepared to use the PCs' own tricks against them. There are two ways to do this; the trick can misfire if overused or abused, or an NPC can use it themselves. You let the PCs do it; that means you're ok with having you own side do it too.

The flipside of this is

Answer is, until people stop watching it. I use Invidious redirect.invidious.io to strip most ads. Works really well, and google is constantly playing whack-a-mole against it, so individual instances do pop up and vanish over time. You can download and set up your own local instance if you like. /1
YouTube now considers an 8 minute video to be a "long video". God knows how much further it's going to take the piss with it's stupid unskippable ads.
