Exmo architect in the mid-Atlantic navigating the far side of one long train wreck of a faith crisis. Picking myself back up as a mostly non-practicing secular Buddhist.
I am a 45-year-old man.

the symbolism of “Trump destroying the White House for a overpriced luxury vanity project, during a government shut down, days after a historically-large mass demonstration against his regime called “No Kings”’ would be rightly viewed as laying it on a little thick if it was in a work of fiction

Off topic: I don't think I will ever forgive Taylor for that teasing 90’s-alt Everclear-esque guitar intro on Actually Romantic that then completely failed to deliver.

I have found that the only effective way to get thru to members is to use properly Mormon-coded language. They have a much harder time othering you when you sound like a testimony meeting.
Crazy MIL: But what about free speech? Me: I’m sorry, but rights are not unlimited. Your freedoms end when they are marginalizing and endangering others. We should not platform N*zis, and Mormons should know better. None of this is “Of good report or praiseworthy.” Then she got real quiet…
“Ernst vom Rath received a state funeral on Nov 17, 1938, with Adolf Hitler and other high-ranking Nazi officials in attendance. They used the funeral as propaganda, claiming the assassination of vom Rath by a Jew was the "first shot" of a war against Germany and that they accepted the challenge”

The administration plans to attack public festivities in Chicago around Mexican Independence Day (which may include this weekend's parade in Pilsen or related activities) because they want to attack folks in settings where people will try to protect and hold onto community members.

We all see that Trump is picking a fight, right? I think he was really surprised that NG in LA didn't cause the violent backlash he needed as an excuse, so now he's trying a few more to see which city finally has enough.

Dammit.

Just found my old scriptures from middle school. I feel so bad for this kid, but there's nothing I can do for him, for his years of guilt and shame and pointless striving.

There is a random moment in KPop Demon Hunters that chilled me to my bone for no apparent reason. Took three days for me to realize it was temple-coded, at least to me.

One of the advantages of being an exmo on the east coast is that the church fades out of your life almost completely. NPR recognized Pioneer Day on my commute this morning and it felt like a sucker punch out of nowhere.

Made me feel for all of you out west where the church is ubiquitous.

My son just wrote a fantasy satire for school he titled "The Woods of the Fallen Knight of the Order of the Keepers of the Woods of the Mystical Dragon of the Sun".

I'm so proud.

One of the greatest tiny joys of life is a cherry tomato and fresh leaf of basil eaten straight off the vine in the summer heat.

I think kimchi is the closest I will ever come to being into S&M.

One of my employees just pulled a personal pint of ice cream out of the company fridge and took it back to her desk as an afternoon treat. I think Gen Z is going to be ok.

Ok, I know NOTHING about Lady Gaga, but based on these lyrics, I think we can all agree she probably dated a mormon/ christian boy when she was a teenager, right?

Just got to watch my son eke out an impressive victory playing Magic the Gathering. It took all his brain power and some impeccable timing. I'm just so damn proud. Is this what being a sports dad feels like?

One of the funniest parts of spring is watching my entire family's heat intolerance emerge. They all take after their mother with her nordic ancestry. We had an Easter egg hunt this morning, and the kids were all melting. It's in the upper 70s.

Missionaries stopped by today. They really need to stop asking me why I left. Because I tell them. In an easy-to-follow logic path using LDS-coded language. The trick is to avoid saying anything that "takes away the spirit" so they're forced to confront the cognitive dissonance.

Realized today that I leaned on God's omniscience to cope with anxiety for most of my life, and a lot of the anxiety I've felt since leaving mormonism was simply me losing my coping mechanism.

ANY article that is based around comparitive large numbers needs to headline with a basic bar graph or pie chart. Once you're beyond family-finance quantities, it's all a blur to the average voter.
Do you know the difference between “$2 trillion” and “$150 billion”? About $2 trillion.

It's amazing to me how often I write a reply to someone on here only to realize it's going to be seen through the lens of a response from a middle-aged white guy and just... "yeah, that's not going to land how I mean it. delete."

So beer cheese is fine, no one has a problem with it. But the moment I mention to my wife the idea of a cheese-flavored beer, I'm suddenly the bad guy.
