Reader, writer, copy-editor, Dubliner, Flanneur, cat-lover, posh punk, ciotóg.

Interests: Flann O’Brien, Miracleman, Alan Moore, and the rest of the 1980s British Invasion. Penguin Books. Also old crime fiction, the older the better.
I have 369 followers here, and I hardly ever post anything. And I imagine that I'd recognise only a tiny fraction of them, at that. The ways of social media are strange...

Very cool to get this card in the post from Pádraig Ó Méalóid, featuring a portrait of Flann O'Brien by Littleman, published by Pruett in 1982!

I am rewatching House. Hugh Laurie is absolutely brilliant. In fairness, so are the rest of the cast.

indeed.
this book is a great document (regardless of whether one's read FH), including script excerpts, thumbnails, reference photos and most importantly, terrific commentary on it all from Campbell. a lot of it specifically about how to work from those scripts

Seeing as there might be a few people who haven’t bought my magnum opus yet, here’s a link! There are a few new chapters that need to be written, covering the last year or two, but I’ve no idea when I’ll be getting around to those.

Poisoned Chalice: The Extremely Long and Incredibly Complex Story of Marvelman (and Miracleman)
The comic character Marvelman (and Miracleman) has a fascinating – and probably unique – history in the field of comics. His extended origin goes all the way back to the very beginnings of the America...

I am having similar thoughts about Neil Gaiman’s work, after the revelations in July, and since. But what I’d really like is to see a resolution to the accusations, one way or another. NG not responding to them publicly in the past 4+ months doesn’t help, though.
If you are, in 2024, consuming Harry Potter stuff of any kind. The books. The movies. The video games. The fucking theme park. You are willingly putting on a sign saying "I care about my wizard book nostalgia more than I care about actual people's lives and well-being". Full stop. No excuses.

Mud and Starlight: Interviews with Alan Moore 2008-2016
Pádraig Ó Méalóid has interviewed Alan Moore numerous times since 2008, perhaps more often than any other interviewer. Those interviews, many of which are no longer available online, are presented...

It's nearly ten years since I did this interview with Alan Moore, and it still regularly gets cited. I would like to point out, though, that I really don't thing it was an 'elite English school' he was attending, although that's hardly the point here.
Alan Moore was sexually assaulted at an elite English school when he was 11 years old. He hardly ever talks about it, but he did so in a 2013 interview. No wonder he fucking hated the Harry Potter books from the jump
