I’m amazed that my brother is working two jobs, seeing infrastructure crumble before his eyes, and can still state that the government should only be a sword. No supportive positive programs. Just police and military. I give it until 2027 before this starts to sink in how f*cked we are.

Its still unfolding, but it appears SAMHSA’s memo to grantees from September which outlined new strategic priorities (nonsense) is being used to justify termination of grants for not meeting those priorities.

THREAD. This can be an important educational moment for progressive people who don't work in or study the punishment bureaucracy. Having spent 20 years in it--and just publishing a book on exactly this topic--I can say that reality works in the opposite way that Jamelle assumes.
maybe an unpopular position on this website but i think the moderate dem focus on ICE training can be, with political pressure, the pathway to more fundamental reforms. rhetorically it is not too hard to move from “more training” to “turns out they’re untrainable and we have to start all over.”

In Critical Path, Bucky notes 99% of folks have no idea how the world works. No understanding of the HOW. No idea that they can investigate and effect change. I think its also why, “organize” has little meaning. Why, “just do something” or “get plugged in” is not actionable advice.

Tim Kaine has demonstrated he’s inadequate for the times. They all are, but Tim often gets a pass. Timid, passive. His agreeableness is no longer an asset. He’s like a child cashing out tips at the end of their shift and always taking less than owed. The business laughs. The child is oblivious.

Never forgetting how easily millions were poured into militarization and the terrorizing of Americas inhabitants. While education, healthcare, housing, food, etc., was too costly to address. I’ll vote for the person that takes the ICE investments and applies that to schools.
