Seen a few fights in Mathers over the years (was in there a lot in the early 90s). One fight knocked the sandwiches off of the counter, which nearly caused a riot with the staff.

Not quite a fight-y as unreconstructed Leith was but definitely had an edge

Been years since I was in West End Mathers. IIRC, West End had to acquire/rent the women’s toilet of the building next door after they were push to serve women. The route to use it was … baroque, according to female friends…

Saw it in Edinburgh years ago at the Fringe (I think it was on at the Playhouse) and it was staged on a white tile abattoir set. They mopped the blood off the stage at the interval. There were more than a few walkouts and green faces.

It was excellent, to be honest
