Representations of stimulus features in the ventral hippocampus

The ventral hippocampus (vHPC) controls emotional response to environmental cues, yet the mechanisms are unclear. Biane et al. examine how positive and negative experiences are encoded by vHPC ensembles, showing that vCA1 does not contain generalized representations of valence but rather discriminates salient stimuli based on their identity and sensory features.

Congrats to the fantastic Jess P for her new paper! She compared how feature Vs outcome focussed agents learn to solve contextual inference problems. She found that you need a balance of both to learn these tasks - and that this mix recapitulates pfc and hippocampal activity in rodent tasks!

With Demi Brizee & David Dupret, we track how oscillations and spiking behaviour map onto hippocampal layers using an LFP-based embedding.
