We are three crones who have been swapping smut since we were maidens and therefore spend a lot of time yelling about romance books. Primarily managed by Holly. Blog at smutreport.com

I promised lots of links to Ye Olde Blogge, so here's a round up of some of our greatest hits to get you started. 🧵

I have no idea. Color me baffled.

I strongly prefer 3rd and everyone yelling at authors to only write first can take a hike.

(Also, POV is a *tool* and you should use the one that works best for the story you're telling)

I'm mostly baffled by the people who follow shit like that. Like. Why?

But also according to this image there's a Bear Attack.

(Is it THAT kind of bear? Or a bear bear? I have so many questions.)

So yeah, as I was saying, there is a WILDLY CONSENSUAL 19-on-1 scene in this series.
A trope map style graphic with the cover of Her Brother's Billionaire Best Friend by Abigail Barnette surrounded with text. The cover pictures a red-haired white woman in a black bra and panties sitting in the lap of a white man in a black suit. He's holding a rocks glass with liquor in it. The text around the cover reads: FWB to lovers! Age gap! Lube orgy! Group activities! Sex island! Older brother's best friend! Bear attack! Peach emoji eggplant emoji in a birthday cake!

An FYI to #romancelandia and #booksky in this age of proliferating scams targeting authors

A PSA: If you ever get an email from The Smut Report offering to talk about your book in exchange for $$$, it is definitely a scam.

The phishers have now moved on to posing as the organizers of real book clubs so that's fun, I have had to tell 3 people this week that someone is impersonating them

Ooooh, thanks for the rec! I (Holly) am, at a minimum, interested in romance-horror crossovers (in all their weird and wonderful forms) so I'll check it out.

Just got an email because I'm part of the Parkmobile Data Breach Settlement.

I am eligible for…

$1

In credit.

To be used toward Parkmobile service fees.

1. We don't solicit authors. (Maybe if you're an indie and we've reviewed all of your books we'll send you a note asking about your upcoming release schedule, but that's it.)

2. We never charge for reviews. Period.

I guess it's Prime Day(s) again, so here are some options if you'd rather not help Jeff Bezos grow even richer. 🧵

First, a couple of Starter Packs of Indie Bookstores to support. (If you are or know of an indie bookstore w/ a Bluesky account that's not listed, let me know.)

Inspired by Ingrid's review:
Kombucha girl:

Romance hero who says "No one will ever love you like I do"

Yuck face: contemporary romance
Yum face: fantasy romance

Considering that I really liked the *other* books by Davin I've read, I'm eyeing this sale even though I own literally a million books already (hashtag reader problems)

EDGE OF NOWHERE is $0.99 as an ebook right now. A cranky smuggler gets hired to teleport an unconscious man. They get stranded in an alien wilderness, rely on each other to get home, and spend the rest of the book in varying states of horny panic.

An image of a figure in silhouette with his back to the viewer. His silhouette is transparent and the starry void of space is visible through it. The text on the cover says "Edge of Nowhere," and below that, "Felicia Davin."

I loved the way magic was portrayed in these books (especially Witchful Thinking). They're really gentle and lovely and perfect for fall.

My husband and I are both big book people (and I was an adjunct teaching English / composition before kids) so I'm hoping that we can fill in some of those gaps at home but I know that's not a sustainable solution.

Feel free to ask me! (If you would prefer to DM, that's fine)

Today on the podcast, we're talking about diversity in books (the characters, not the authors / publishing, which is a whole different conversation).
Tumblereads: What is a “diverse” book anyway?

Oh, I absolutely believe you. My kids are in elementary and the librarian does a great job of encouraging full-book reading, but all of their assignments are about responding to short boring passages.

I mean, I will never forget being in high school and having a teacher tell us that that "he changed his name from Gatz to Gatsby to symbolize how he wanted to BE-come someone" so I don't think teaching lit in boring or weird ways is new.

I took a class on British Modernism and same except instead of Dickens it was Joyce (tbf, the prof only assigned 6 chapters of Ulysses)
