This is something I’ve been actively learning/unlearning as I actually am finishing and putting out pieces.
It FEELS good, but it’s masturbatory rather than actually useful to writing the story.
You need as much world building and lore as your story needs, and not a bit more.
But it’s hard.

Both genre writing and wider nerd spaces have a perennial fixation on lore, worldbuilding, and "good ideas" that detracts from what actually matters, which is good writing, good prose, good execution. Those are the things that make good books good

Much ink has been spilled to the effect of "trans girl spinny skirt cringe" but I don't think people realize how demandingly rigid the rituals of forced masculinity are. I was screamed at for wearing the "wrong colored" shoes. Let trans women be girls, most were not allowed to be.
One of the great things about being a trans woman is giving yourself permission to finally like cute things that weren't "socially acceptable" to enjoy before.
