If you are anxious and sad about the state of the world, that's fine, and there are plenty of strategies for dealing with that. But I think you already know that drive-by online dooming isn't a strategy. It's selfish and adolescent. It's a contagion that only spreads the worst of you, not the best.

the discourse on what jobs are acceptable to replace with generative AI reveals a lot about what we think of other people's jobs
recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best. It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. One reason I feel like I'm going mad is, even if Musk did immediately halt Grok and issue a grovelling apology - rather than PAYWALLING IT - he should *still* be prosecuted and his website banned. Very obviously! You don't get out of CSAM charges by just stopping. AND HE STILL HASN'T STOPPED.

The way I interpret this scene now especially with #TheHuntForBenSolo news is when Luke says "I will not be the last Jedi" not only is he talking about Rey but Ben too. I think this is Luke's way of acknowledging that Rey was right about him judging Ben too quickly and like Rey he is now...

How do I opt out? To opt out of sharing your public Tumblr content with third parties, you'll need to toggle on a new "Prevent third-party sharing" option in the settings of each individual blog you run. This needs to be done on a web browser, not through the Tumblr app. These updates have been added to Tumblr's support article about user privacy. If you have already elected to discourage searching of your blog in the past, the new "prevent third-party sharing" option will already be toggled on by default.

Not coping well w/ the events of the world. My therapist says empathy, just like anxiety, has to have boundaries. Otherwise both spin out of control. He said empathy’s boundary is compassion & compassion is actionable. We’re not meant to physically FEEL the pain of EVERYTHING around us. It’d kill us

Honestly I think the only truly bad sequel film is RISE OF SKYWALKER simply because it tries so hard to undo and recontext LAST JEDI. Last Jedi desperately needed to happen and running from it was a huge mistake IMHO.

It’s no guarantee but the first thing you should do if you see an outrageous story that’s just an image or screenshot or video with no link to a reputable source is to check the replies and see if someone is saying “that’s an AI fake.” And then don’t spread it either way because it’s not sourced.
