My actual resolutions for 2025 (and beyond):
-build IRL community
-use the library often
-disconnect to connect
-learn/relearn at least one event/concept in history every week
-use my privilege to protect others
-slow down
-learn a new language
-let go of perfection and ride the wave

You won't be any better at fighting what's coming if you burn yourself out and spend all your time feeling bleak and hopeless, and the people telling you that it's all despair now probably don't have anyone's best interest at heart.

One thing before tomorrow:

Use your local libraries.

Get your card.

Borrow books, manga, films, audios, ebooks.

Recommend titles for purchase (usually online).

Attend promoted activities.

Fill out those "How are we doing?" questionnaires.

Tell your kids that libraries are good.

TikTok had a massive community of #ActuallyAustistic people, likely the largest autistic community in the world ever. It included all ages and speakers and non-speakers.

It also had a large chronically ill community.

The potential loss of community for many otherwise isolated folks is significant.

Meta socials are where creativity and expression go to die. That bitch with a perm lobbied millions of dollars to ban TT in the hope we would crawl back to his antiquated platforms. Don’t give in, delete everything meta. Eat shit and choke, Zuck 😘

Something doesn’t have to directly affect you for you to have empathy. Lack of empathy is a character flaw.

Good next step would be to stop treating it like it was only Gen Z who used it. There was a MASSIVE community of elder Millennial and Gen x women that were able to leverage their platforms to leave abusive relationships and find independence for the first time. This puts them back in danger.

My rational mind knows it’s just an app and that it will be great for me to be off my phone more. But GOD it was so much more than just an app. TikTok got me through the darkest times of my life and helped me understand myself and this world. And we all know it won’t be the same if orange “saves” it

I liked TikTok because I got to be who I really am in my heart: a creepy little lurker who watches everything and says little.
