Maxine Peake and Shirley Henderson and Peter Mullen are fantastic. Also some young actors in there with Tourettes’ syndrome who are truly excellent. Robert Aramayo puts in an award winning turn. So excited to see how his career develops. That’s a generational actor, I think.

Remarkable movie, and astonishing central performance. Made me think how infrequently we see this kind of film now. Grounded, social realism, very British drama. Good to see posters everywhere and a cinema release. Old school British cinema that isn’t only twee or ‘old person does something quirky.’

One great thing about Arteta is he’s able to simultaneously piss of “yer da” fans who find his commitment to things like “motivation” and “team-building” cringe while also angering people who love “progressive football” and insist he’s a Spanish Tony Pulis

🔺 ‘Train hard, fight easy’

After Mikel Arteta revealed he invited the RAF to help Arsenal improve their communication, @dansheldon.bsky.social spoke to former fighter pilots to find out what they might have learnt ⤵️
What Arsenal can learn from the Red Arrows: Code words, hand signals, ‘train hard, fight easy’

how dead is the tory party? dead enough that multiple people who support this exact policy have texted me in dismay that it's now backed by Kemi Badenoch

It's properly unconscionable that the Home Office has created this situation. It should never have been allowed to happen and once it did happen it should have been immediately reversed.

Birmingham, my home city, is a fantastic city, with fantastic people- a success story. It has its problems, like anywhere. But the obsession the online right has with it is as transparent as it gets.

I think talking about Taylor Swift and framing the subject as online fuss and ‘isn’t her new album lovely’ is peak The Restification of Culture. How can you mention her and not her impact on modern feminism? It’s a wider softening, Bake-Offing of culture.

There’s something so ghoulish about the ad reads on the rest is entertainment podcast I usually give up on the episode before they even get to the end

There’s no argument worth having anymore because it’s all bad faith. Everything is culture war. Everything is some kind of viral meme. It’s all so transparent and anti-intellectual and it has infected our politics body and soul and all I can do now is ignore all of it. Ideas. Not discourse.

I agree with every word Zelda Williams says. And this at the end from OpenAI makes me want to go full Ned Ludd. Creators can’t have a blanket opt-out on copyright infringement of their work and have to fill out a form appealing to OpenAI’s mercy every time? Fuck off into the sun
OpenAI told the Guardian that content owners can flag copyright infringement using a “copyright disputes form” but that individual artists or studios cannot have a blanket opt-out. Varun Shetty, OpenAI’s head of media partnerships, said: “We’ll work with rights holders to block characters from Sora at their request and respond to takedown requests.”

And that is the answer: Zionism accepts no judge or authority. It can do no wrong — not because of what it does or how it behaves, but because of *who* it is — and therefore, by definition, anyone who claims otherwise is an antisemite.

This is the internal logic of Zionism.

Our own politicians were praising the Israeli army — a foreign army — as being more moral than our own, as though that was the natural state of things. It wasn’t even: “this is a model of morality that we should emulate and exceed,” it was: “they, unlike us, can do no wrong.”

This concept — that Israel lies beyond the scope of our moral or legal judgment — is a crystallisation of the ethnic supremacism at the heart of Zionism. And so for years, do you remember, we were told that the Israeli military was “the most moral army in the world”?

Are we to believe, much like with climate change, that everyone who has dedicated their entire life and career to the study of this very question has got it wrong, except for a few crackpots? Or is it even more straightforward than that? Is it that Israel can do no wrong ever?
