An example would be Bergstrom et al 2000 on existence of plasmids. Really beautiful work, fun to read and influential in setting up the plasmid paradox. Also a good opportunity to discuss assumptions and the relationship between modelling and empirical studies. academic.oup.com/genetics/art...
