my catpeople building pieces are all gender neutral (as in applicable to anyone, not a nonbinary identity). though their design falls into a "masculine" looking default imo due to the focus on thick body hair and flat-chestedness. so i care about showing my catgirls with those traits too (1/2)

No, not at all. Breeds have traceable genetic lineage to verified foundation stock. That’s like saying your uncle must be royalty because he looks a bit like Prince Charles
So what are the cat “breeds” then? Like is a Norwegian forest cat or a Maine coone just a domestic longhair with a certain color pattern? And what even is a breed then if not a group of cats with recognizably distinct traits such as color pattern, toe floofs, etc?

A big part of this misconception is from a very common phenomenon of folk assuming things they've learned about dogs having a 1:1 correlation with cats.
Cats are very understudied compared to dogs. So a person that knows dogs are a mix of breeds may, very incorrectly, assume cats work the same way
