I accidentally drowned my first fuyu persimmon tree by over watering in heavy clay. I'm hoping my 2nd attempt will go better with lessons learned 1st time around.
(Do a better job actually amending the soil this time)
Anyway, it'll cost less than buying all the persimmons I'd want to eat (KILOS).

not the point but fuyu persimmons for $3.99/ea is a great price for the growers, hot damn

My Very Dear Ones,

I write to you from near the front lines of war ravaged Portland.

I keep going back and looking at this picture. It seems, no matter what topic I'm working with, I really like bright, saturated colors.
Rectangular woven basket filled with blue, yellow, and pink dry beans.

Oh my gosh, please promote the hell out of this when it's available. I need it.

A few months ago I was awake before sunrise and I heard a vaguely owl-like sound that could have also been a demonic monkey and Merlin said it was a barred owl, so they're continuing their nonsense in the Carolinas.

When I (39F) was a teen, my (now late) father (early/mid-40s at the time) would happily carry my shiny pink purse with kittens printed on it if I needed my full carrying capacity for other tasks.

Excellent man, miss him very much.

It's a good book, I liked it. (Creepy!)

I do a comic about ornithological vocabulary for every issue of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's wonderful Living Bird magazine. Here's the latest one, featuring the American Bittern.
A three-panel comic. The first panel is a scrap from a dictionary that says crypsis, noun: patterning or coloration that allows a bird to remain concealed by blending in to its environment. In panel 2, labeled effective crypsis, an american bittern blends in with a marsh full of tall plants. In panel 2, labeled ineffective crypsis, an american bittern fails to blend in among some short plants, next to a wet floor sign, and behind a stop sign.

@ksonney.redwombat.social.ap.brid.gy Hi!
Somehow I thought that the "rent a chick" 2 week visit would be temporary and here we are, 2 days later, researching coops. IF you have time, can you recommend a decent starter chicken coop? We're in SC, so heat is more of a concern than killing winters.
"Dot", also named by 5yo. The roundest chick, fairly shy, rather worried. Dark Amulin, the small mostly black chick, named by my 5yo. He says Amulin is a word he made up.
DA is the best at baby chicken crimes so far. (She can fly about 5" straight up to stand on their water dish, then out of their bin) "Pecky", renamed from "Pecker" because I explained to my 5yo that pecker is a rude word for penis and he might get in trouble at school for talking about his chicken.

Oh hey, my MS lab worked with these! (Poecilia in general, focus on the Amazon mollies and their sperm donor species)
Good lord that degree was a long time ago.

I saw a mantis this morning and thought you might like to see her(?) too :)
SC, seen on my car, relocated to the shrubbery using a bit of plastic.
A bright green mantis on the side of a blue car, has a single spot on each side of her(?) butt Same mantis from the other side Mantis in a shrub

Hair WILL still escape, but less so than other braids, and it doesn't hurt the base of my skull from laying on a tight ponytail.
The back of my head, showing the hair twists back there
spinachwrap.bsky.social
Words are hard so I did a speedy video of this twisty braid thing I've done when hospitalized. It keeps my hair from getting tangled in the back better than a French braid, and doesn't have the hard knot of a hair tie at the base of my skull.

Exciting! Here's their clay tolerant species list, you can filter by state, shade/sun, very useful: www.prairiemoon.com/search-resul...

So far I've had great results with prairie moon nursery's single species trays. Completely different goal than yours (I'm trying to make a pollinator garden out of a clay lawn), but looks like they have your species of interest?

My husband (raised in Florida) had never tried spam until I (Oklahoman) made him spam fried rice. Immediate spam fan. My grandparents used to make fried spam and Velveeta grilled cheese sandwiches. Delicious salty garbage!

To a firework, your body is sentient gelatin. Nothing more. Nothing less. Remember that and use fireworks safely this July 4th.

Thanks for talking about skratch labs, I've been using that to not die in SC. Harassed my FIL into using it too, so he will also probably not shrivel up and die.

Oh no D:
I keep tecnu around for when I've accidentally touched poison ivy, and so far it's also worked well for getting spicy residue off my hands.
