Another WIP Wednesday from my Christmas #ghoap fic! Soap is nothing if not persistent.
"The offer still stands, ye ken?" Ghost finally looked up at that, brows furrowing as he searched Soap's face. "What offer?" "To come to Scotland on holiday. I'm staying in a little house that belongs to one of Da's friends. It's outside of town on a bit of land, all quiet and picturesque." Instead of the flat look from a year ago, Ghost's gaze turned wary. Haunted. If Soap didn't know better, he'd say hopeful, too—maybe for something quiet and peaceful or maybe for the idea of company. Soap wasn't enough of a glutton for punishment to dream that big, though. Ghost's swallow cut through the hospital sounds as clear as a gunshot. "'M not good company over Christmas."

Soap's revelation goes something like Ghost comes back from a solo op and Soap asks him of any injuries as he walks him to his room, and Ghost just huffs a smile and says, "you tell me, Johnny" and Soap stops in his tracks.

Going with the abusive household backstory for Ghost, this means Soap had seemingly unexplained pains fairly common when growing up, which his family figured out must be from him having a soulmate.

WIP Wednesday for my #ghoap Christmas fic, coming to you in December. It's a canon-adjacent, getting-together fic, and I'm sure you're all surprised because I've obviously *never* done one of those before... ahem...
They'd gone on a few missions together before those exhausting weeks chasing Hassan all over the world, most notably the disaster in Verdansk. But something had grown between them in Mexico and solidified in Chicago, and during the month that followed their return to Credenhill, Soap realized he was probably closer to Ghost than anyone except Price. Still, Soap hadn't quite figured out how to anticipate Ghost's walls and often ran into them head first—like the one he was up against right now. The use of his rank instead of his call sign or the more casual "Johnny" they'd established in Las Almas was about as subtle as a flare at midnight. He should keep quiet. Not push it. And yet. It made Soap a little crazy to think of Ghost alone on base over Christmas. "You should come to Scotland with me."

With all the missions and team Voltron always around, the moments when Shiro gets Keith to himself, and to see all his edges softened, are rare. So he wakes him on a starlit night below foreign moons to steal him away.

They are on a foreign planet, the backdrop shows a big moon or pale planet, lots of stars, a shooting star. Keith is lying in a hammock that looks somewhere between crystalline and cellular in structure, is mostly transparent and emits a soft, pinkish glow. It’s actually part of the local flora (or mycelia) and it’s alien, interconnected structures are used by the planets inhabitants as sleeping, resting and gathering places high above the ground. Overall blue, grey, muted purple, pink and peach hues.

had to pick up some extra work so I haven’t had time to polish the last couple chapters as well as I’d want. fingers crossed ch9 should be out this week 💚⚾️

It scared Soap and turned him on, and he waited to find out which sensation would win. “What are you doing here.” It was a statement, not a question, and Ghost’s expression was guarded. Wary. Soap responded with honesty. “Watching you.” “I’m not doing anything,” Ghost said, accusatory. “Well, yeah,” Soap acknowledged. “But it’s your practice. I’m here to support you. Like people do.” He motioned at the random guests in attendance, then twisted halfway around to show Ghost the back of his jersey for emphasis. GHOST 41. Soap watched Ghost make his mental calculations. “You’re here to watch me.” Ghost’s voice was hard. “Even though I’m not doing anything.” “Yeah,” Soap confirmed, feeling slightly stupid. “Wearing my jersey.” “Yeah,” Soap repeated, and Ghost brought his eyes up to Soap’s face with a sharp, glittering intensity. It pinned Soap in place. It’s possible this was too much, showing up when Ghost hadn’t asked him to be there and wearing his name in front of all these people. Soap knew he could play it off to the guys and the media, but maybe Ghost didn’t like it. On the other hand, instinct told Soap that Ghost did.
