The problem with Black Economic Empowerment in South Africa is that it has not done enough to reverse the legacy of apartheid. Much research shows that, including mine. Do not buy the lies Trump told at his pantomime. This is why research, universities and academic freedom are important.

BP is (was?) likely most progressive of major oil companies

But they've just rolled back because...well, investors

The view that Big Oil "need to be part of the transition" to net zero, if it ever made sense, is obsolete

They just need to be made redundant

Goal of increasing renewable energy generation 20-fold to be ditched, shareholders to be told this week

Think you are 'safe' because you don't live in the US? Think again. . . 'Musk’s far-right influence has taken on a life of its own and started to have an impact even in countries he has not yet visited or said anything about.'

A few words from me for @aljazeera.com on the rise of Musk in global politics.
aljazeera.com
"It is a worry that Musk has been able to get as far as he has in terms of meddling in the internal politics of several countries. One can only hope that there will soon be a concerted pushback to Musk’s global moves."

The amount of shit on social media from unreconstructed and flat out racist white South Africans following Trump’s lead is truly insane…

Some of the most privileged people imaginable have convinced themselves that they are uniquely victimised…

If people normalize this lawbreaking instead of pushing back, it will be very hard ever to restore the system of government that most of us grew up assuming it would be in place. Trump’s disregard for US constitution ‘a blitzkrieg on the law’, legal experts say

BP’s stock went up 5% today, the most since February, after it announced it’s slashing spending on offshore wind and spinning the business out into a JV.

Investors never rewarded them for going into renewables and now seem to be cheering their retreat

This chart is an indictment of the US for-profit health care system.

All of those lost years are the cost of profits being claimed.
A visualization showing that while other developed nations achieve life expectancies of 82-84 years with health spending of $3,000-$6,000 per capita, the United States spends nearly $10,000 per capita only to achieve a life expectancy of 78.7 years (as of 2018). Japan, Spain, and other nations lead with longer lives at far lower costs, while the US stands as a stark outlier – spending the most for worse health outcomes.

No no no! It’s all about freedom … of being stuck in traffic

We’ve known this for a LONG time, but we’ve put massive energy, money, space, and time into pretending we don’t know it. #TheTRUTHaboutTraffic
