Always nice to hear the review of the year from Laura Kuenssberg.

Trump:
- moved into the White House
- asked Europe to increase defence spending
- moved to create a ceasefire in Gaza
- didn't create a global trade war

Hmm. I sort of thought he did more than that.

This is a piece on how my GP practice appeared to be misuing the new online booking service by suggesting it's the only way of making appointments. (ie not through phone or walk-in)
If something similar has happened to you, I'd be interested to hear about it.

Interesting that the BBC will call National Rally "Far Right" (in an article about Bardella meeting Farage) - when they would never use that term for Reform. Their policies are very similar. If anything Reform's are more authoritarian.

Where’s their sense of solidarity with all of its supporters

Really shameful this from both sides

I don't see what's stopping the European Commission from saying something along the lines of: "We will no longer post on X and we don't think citizens of EU nations should post there either."
So what's the outcome?

2️⃣5️⃣ of the 27 Commissioners have posted in the last week

2️⃣4️⃣ of the 27 generally post every week (Albuquerque has never been on X, Ribera is sporadic, McGrath has somehow stopped)

0️⃣ have stopped as a result of what Twitter has become since the Musk takeover

I really don't think he's saying that, tho. More that there's a genuine risk of fascist authoritarianism under Reform of the sort we've never seen before under the Tories. Which I don't think is a surprising thing for him to think. Or, tbh, wrong.

Farage has vowed to cut funding to universities that undermine ‘free speech’. This is just the beginning of the Trump playbook and we know from Johnson’s time there are few constitutional guardrails to stop the abuse of power. Cosying up isn’t going to cut it.

It's such a bizarre framing. Labour MPs think taking 450k kids out of poverty is putting the country first! That's why they wanted it to happen! It's not because they personally benefit.
Headline on The World at One just now:

"Sir Keir Starmer has denied putting the Labour Party before the country by ending the two-child benefit cap".

Can we please go back to reporting the actual news, not someone's partisan take on it?

I 100% recommend @pierrenovellie.bsky.social's book Why Can't I Enjoy Things? - hands down the best first person book on autism I've read. Obviously everyone's experience is different so I also echo others' advice to just talk to other ND folk about their experience and realise you're not alone!

Maybe Keir should demand the heads of major US news networks any time they imply Britain is on the brink of civil war or that we live under sharia law. Or does it not work both ways?

1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️
