Amid all the attention CK is getting, let’s not forget those who are suffering in my community as a direct result of his hateful ideology. When they examine the weapon, they will find his fingerprints all over it!

A short, must-watch video. Thanks to these scientists for sharing. We really need more scientists standing up against the assault on research.

Of course, an absence of evidence of pathology is not evidence of an absence of risk! LSD is metabolized faster in mice than humans. Also, our mice were healthy and people with pre-existing heart conditions could be at greater risk. Prospective human studies are needed.

John McCorvy (Medical College of Wisconsin) compared mouse and human 5HT2BRs and found equivalent affinity and potency. Calculated human PKAs for LSD revealed lower and shorter 5HT2BR activation for microdosed LSD than the pathogen fenfluramine, presumably accounting for the different pathology. 3/

We gave mice low doses of LSD (0.01 and 0.03 mg/kg) for 8 weeks and used longitudinal echocardiography to look for changes in heart structure and function. Changes were seen in positive control groups, but not LSD groups. Why not? 2/

We still don’t know if microdosing psychedelics is effective or a placebo, but is it safe? Could microdosing activate cardiac 5HT2B receptors and cause valvulopathy? New work online at pubs.acs.org/doi/pdf/10.1... from @deffinger.bsky.social suggests that - at least in mice - the answer is no. 1/

I attended the first ever Neurobiology of Psychedelics GRC last month.

I was impressed by how interdisciplinary the field is, from molecules to humans. We are just starting to understand the mechanisms of these drugs and how they can unlock future treatments. #GRCPsychedelics
