They can’t use their tv’s either. The whole streaming and the advanced remote skills it takes is impossible.

It’s not just an understanding problem - if someone has excessively dry skin, their presses might not register, meaning that EVEN IF they understand the process, it’s far harder for them to complete steps.

It’s actually worse than just accessibility - as we age, our skin gets less conducive due to producing fewer oils. This wouldn’t be a problem, but phones and tablets rely on skin conductivity to register presses. So the elderly are doubly hampered when interacting with these devices.

And sometimes it’s just the ability to use yr hands. It’s common to lose some manual dexterity as we get older. My dad also had arthritis and a tremor which made using a phone and eventually any keyboard impossible. Most ppl wl develop at least one of these problems with age.

That’s challenging. Patient Portals are here to stay. That’s the reality. Fortunately I am computer literate. I will work with and around patient portals to get things done!

Marketing decided we had to do a sign ups effort.

Problem: system would call every single household member listed

Huge problem: 1 rural county jail sent everyone to our clinic, so multiply all who had passed thru x all their fam, all listed at jail’s number = 1 cooked law enforcement phone system

My 82 year old FIL has accidentally cancelled long-awaited & needed drs appointments via text “confirmation” replies. This is all a real problem.

My mother… can’t see well at all but hearing is ok. Does well enough, texts & uses emojis like a teenager but quickly loses all patience with doctors’ offices & don’t even say “patient portal” around her

The risks for this situation are everywhere, from not being able to reach someone if they need help to becoming constant prey for scammers. But also just in general so much of life is virtual these days, if you can't use a smart phone, you're locked out and isolated. It's just you and TV.

Probably lucky that's all it did. Autocorrect isn't kind. It seems to get in moods.
