Train Dreams is a lovely film that deserves to be watched on the biggest screen you can find. It's just breathtaking.

79-year-old Paul Bojerski was born to Polish parents in a WWII German refugee camp. His family legally emigrated to the U.S. when he was 5.

He’s been taken by ICE in Florida.

Paul Bojerski never gained official residency, but he checked in regularly with ICE for years. Then in July, at age 79, he was detained and sent to Alligator Alcatraz.

Every day we divest more and more from what actually makes America exceptional.

What job are you extremely unlikely to ever get that you think you would kick ass at?

I think I could book compelling wrestling storylines.

We're going to need a tool that allows us to change the input on the TV remotely because I spent an hour of my evening on a video call with my parents repeating "just push the source button!"

As a journalist and emerging public historian, I spent much of the past week reading through transcripts of oral histories made and collected by residents of Kerr County, Texas – where flash floods killed more than 100 people this month.

There’s one recording that stood out to me. 🧵

This continues to surprise everyone I talk to. Even if you've accumulated a nest egg, long-term care is so expensive that only the wealthiest people can afford to pay without going on Medicaid. Medicaid is largely how the middle class pays for elder care, which forces them into poverty.

Always loved the people who are like, "But my ancestors came here the legal way!" and by that they mean they arrived via ratship to an island, a man asked them their name, they were like, "Uh, Jeff... Smith?" another guy said "sure?" and then they became permanent residents of the United States.
Bit rich complaining about New York being taken over by immigrants when there's a big fucking statue in the harbour that invites everyone to come live there.

New from me: Most people have not heard of the Administration for Community Living. But it's a vitally important Institution to keep people with disabilities and elderly people in their homes. And RFK Jr. and DOGE are targeting it.

Fifty years ago today, the Khmer Rouge entered Phnom Penh and within hours forced everyone out of the city to restructure Cambodia into an idealized agrarian society. This was "Day One" of nearly four years of forced labor, "reeducation," and mass murder.

From April 17, 1975, to January 7, 1979, the Khmer Rouge perpetrated one of the greatest crimes of the 20th century. Nearly two million people died.

This is not about efficiency. Giving federal employees purchase cards saves money - it reduces layers of paperwork and red tape.
Imagine running a business where you stopped employees from purchasing anything. The goal is to shut down government by other means.
