Hes rightfully getting cooked over this but hes not completely wrong. Respectability politics is never going to save our community but setting higher standards and having more self love will mitigate even negate many of the effects and tools of oppression. We are really all we need.
Dear Black people, if we want some of us to be treated with higher standards in society, we have to start holding ourselves to those same standards. When we present ourselves in ways that reinforce negative stereotypes or reflect low expectations, we leave the door open for judgment and ridicule. 👇🏾

I don't want my appliances to be connected to the internet. I don't want them to have blinky lights or touch screen controls or be accessible by phone. All I want is for them to do the one thing they are supposed to do, and to beep less.
