Seeing modern public libraries, one of America's greatest innovations and contributions to the world, be attacked, politicized, and conquered by authoritarians is too much to bear.

Declaring library books "government speech" is horrifying.

Check on your librarians, we are not okay.
Politics Can Now Dictate Public Library Collections in Three States, Per Fifth Circuit Ruling

Another librarian is standing up for herself! If you feel led to do so, consider giving up a snack/treat this week and donating that $5 to my friend Christine.

Folks saying “DEI” will be used against all libraries now … where ya been? Four+ years!!! They just shoved all their previous targets of “critical race theory,” “comprehensive sexuality education,” and “social emotional learning” under one umbrella term. It’s the same things with a snappier name.

This will devastate so many small libraries. Others, like my system, will technically be OK but will definitely not be able to do everything we're doing now. Database access, interlibrary loans. . . all at threat.
A temporary restraining order halts further dismantling of the only federal agency for libraries, but the 2026 federal budget calls for eliminating the IMLS completely.

All right Texas. If you've got local elections coming up, it's beyond time to start preparing for them.

Yeah, I feel this too. I hope I'm wrong, but . . .
I don't think they're bringing that poor man back from El Salvador, and to be honest I question sometimes whether he is even still alive. I think that place is an extermination camp. I don't think anyone leaves. Everyone facilitating this deserves the Hague

We recognize this is what'll happen with IMLS, right?

I would bet if funding is brought back to the states through the IMLS, the provision will be no LGBTQ+ books or content.

Ohio was yet another test run.

I think the line about an IMLS audit should be the thing sending chills up and down every person's spines.

They will use that info to spread misinformation about what the money was used for, just as their Instagram posts showed today.

They are 100% out to get every library and museum worker.
I've obtained a copy of the letter sent by IMLS Acting Director Keith Sonderling to state library grantees letting them know their funding was being pulled, effective immediately:

It's not a bad idea to go to the local Walmart or big box retailer and buy lots of consumables now. From toothpaste to soap, anything you can find storage space for, buy before they have to replenish inventory.

Even if it's made in the USA , they will jack up the price and blame it on tariffs.

I'm old enough to remember when something like what Cory Booker is doing would be covered an all of the cable channels almost uninterrupted. I'm old enough to remember when the whole country would be watching. For the "DO SOMETHING" crowd, remember we do not have the same kind or press.
