You can't just have your position visibly be "the electorate was wrong, actually" on everything, even if you think they were

(Altbough on specific things you can stick to your guns)

Many such cases, unfortunately

Judges who hold their positions for life, too, and have no apparent method for removal.

At least with the House of Lords it's uncontroversial for an elected government to pack it how they like

That's that Narnia show, isn't it? Can't think of any other upcoming child-actor-centric projects.

Please join my campaign for the British government to set up a department that would deal with issues around culture, media (and sport - why not?). And also to set up a specific regulator for broadcast media.

If a news organisation is making -200% margin after five years, it is not a commercial operation and should be assumed to have a different purpose.

(okay, a lot of people pronounce it the obvious way even round here)

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

Yasuke as the equivalent of the Aya missions in Origins would've worked great

Also I quite liked Vestara Khai, she was fun. Too obviously a Mara analogue but fun nonetheless and her ultimately choosing evil was a good choice, narratively

He could've been interesting had they not had to hit that endpoint!

Also by any standard Tahiri's trial in Fate of the Jedi was nonsense; since we've established that being a Sith in and of itself was not a crime, her only offence is killing Pellaeon. But she was a member of the GA military (as far as we know) and he'd just made a declaration of war

SCOOP: Last year, Ubisoft cancelled an Assassin's Creed game set during Reconstruction. Was to feature a Black Assassin who, among other things, fought the rise of the Klan

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

Company leadership deemed the project too controversial for the moment, sources tell Game File

But after Augustus the core Roman army appears to almost always be professional, although conscription appears to remain "on the books" for a few centuries.
storywonker.bsky.social
(And THAT army lasts until it's smashed by Turks and Normand at Manzikert and Dyrrachion respectively)
storywonker.bsky.social
This army persists, broadly (in the East) until, we presume, at least the Justinianic conquests and possibly until Heraclius' War with Persia. After the Arab conquests, the Romans remake the army again, although the Thematic/Tagmatic divide isn't a million miles from the Limitanei/Comitatenses one.
