The README section about hot reloading did not need to go this hard
the phoenix remembered every moment of every death, and of the harrowing abyssal cold infinity between passing & resurrection.

as it turns out, hopeful retellings of the myth took the wrong message from it — it wasn't a miracle for the beast to keep returning to life: it was a curse to die forever.

i have a vision of government in which i do not hear from my representatives, i do not read their tweets. rather i feel only their actions, in the safety of my neighborhood and my neighbors. i imagine legislators with armed better with principles & tenacity than performance & rhetoric

losing my mind at the "she should have followed directions" people

really? really? you're cool with "if you don't follow directions, they get to kill you"? that seems like a good state of affairs to you? that seems like how law enforcement ought to work: instant obeisance or death?

i put my foot down: th machine squeals in protest, laying rubber for a kilometer before getting traction. the payload is a mosaic virus made of last-gen code & rusted bolts. i grip the wheel: i'll either get there in time or be turned to meat & ash upon the guardrails of the information superhighway

while the current official number is hotly debated, there are actually far more tags in HTML than the ~150 commonly cited! that number merely represents the ones we’ve discovered and domesticated — there are potentially thousands more in the creeping unexplored corners of the deep web & dark net

i do indeed miss old friends in Notepad++, and Dreamweaver, and FileZilla. i miss the excitement of FTP, and the sheen of the first domain i ever bought; the endless ensuing hallways of subsequent subdomains. i miss feeling the modem noises in my teeth, and the dirt of the web beneath my fingernails

Per tradition, my first blog post of the year is a recap of 2025. It was a hard year in some ways, a meaningful one in others. Writing it helped me make sense of it.

there's no perfect version of this idea: bsky & mastodon & twitter & forums & any town-square-style platform...it would be great if there was a magic combination of moderation tools would make people normal, but as ever:

logging off & practicing being normal IRL makes us better at being normal URL
my hot take is that I don't think it's this website specifically that's toxic. the Circumstances are toxic and nobody really knows what to do about it so they come online and scream. and if I may offer an alternative: actually going outside and screaming feels better.
