This one is a bit of a departure from the usual and definitely a work in progress!

We found that by using ab initio reconstruction at very high res, in very small steps, we could crack some small structures that had eluded us - e.g. 39kDa iPKAc (EMPIAR-10252), below.

This composition is a tribute to the legendary Bill Jacobs, who isolated the Bxb1 phage-aka the 'Bronx Bomber'-from the dirt in his backyard in the Bronx, NY. 🦠🏠🗽
A true classic in #phage lore! #tuberculosis

#NotTheCover @cellpress.bsky.social ...but, we’re still pretty proud of it! 😄 Had an awesome time putting this together with the amazing @kfreeman.bsky.social and @raphaelpark.bsky.social What a ride! 🚀

Scripps Research and @pittofficial.bsky.social capture the first cryo-EM & cryo-ET images of a virus infecting TB-causing Mycobacteria, revealing an unexpected infection mechanism that could inform phage therapies for drug-resistant TB, per @cellpress.bsky.social.

Host invasion by a mycobacteriophage—visualized in action! 🦠✨
Thrilled to have contributed to this exciting work! Great collaboration with the amazing Krista @kfreeman.bsky.social & Graham Hatfull lab. Huge thanks to the Park lab for this fantastic opportunity 🙌 #CryoEM #CryoET #phage #mycobacteria

Hurray, it is finally out! Meet bacteriophage Bxb1 - the subject of my first full-phage cryo-EM study. My structures are beautifully complemented by the Park Lab’s cryo-ET analysis, shedding light on mycobacteriophage structural changes during infection.
