I just called both of my senator’s offices and my house representative office to express concerns about *gestures broadly at everything* and I am so proud of myself!

Gonna need more non-disabled people to see stuff like this and understand that ableism is also one of the integral -isms the right is devoted to, so it should be jettisoned whenever and in whomever you encounter it

A teacher emailed me & said "My scientist didn't reply to me. My scientists ALWAYS reply to me! What the heck!".

I was like "Well. Science is kinda crumbling. Friends/colleagues are losing their jobs or at least funding, & some are being told to cease all outside communications".

She hadn't heard.

Every scientist, long before they were a scientist, was a little kid who stood in front of a fish tank or stared up at the stars or turned over a rock to look at the bugs underneath and said “wow”. On the best days, working in science still feels like that.

This is at the heart of the grief we feel at the firing of Federal scientists. Scientists go to school and train for years, and mostly don’t get rich or work easy hours. Why?

Because we get to look at the stars. We get to ask questions, and to try to use the answers to help people.

I spent this morning like I do every Tuesday morning, volunteering for a local climate org. I’m lucky and privileged to have the capacity to do so, and if you can do this, I recommend it, if only because current flood-the-zone tactics can make us forget what good people and good work look like

I recently spoke with a friend on the inside of one of those major 3-letter federal agencies, and although this isn’t groundbreaking news I thought it was helpful context:
