A wonder series to retellings that I just learned about this year. Something pensive and heartfelt to lead me into winter solstice.
December 14th for the last ten years has meant a queer story or retelling inspired by a holiday story or song. Here’s this year’s offering: "A Winter’s Hourglass," inspired by "Let it Snow" and offering two revisits to tales that came before.

I hope it reminds us of a truth: we’ve always been here.
A Winter’s Hourglass
Every December 14th for the past ten years, I’ve re-written a holiday story through a queer lens, retelling it as a way to retroactively tell stories to my younger self that include people like me.…

Holy Shit, the TV adaptation George Gently books is amazing. Martin Shaw (as well as the rest of the cast), the writing, and the setting are fantastic. Some episodes watch more like a play than a TV show in the best way--all the feelings without melodrama. Highly recommend if you've missed it.

It's not third world countries. It's developing nations. Stop using that antiquated term rooted in colonial thinking.
Reminder: people living in some developing nations have better infrastructure and access to food, housing, and healthcare than many Americans.

Also reduced wrist strain for those with carpel tunnel. It's weird relearning how to knit, but once you get the hang of it, it's much faster than holding the working yarn in your right hand.

Geen dieet voor mijne jarige! It's a little informal (as Mary Berry would euphemistically say), but I'm quite pleased with how it turned out given that I don't often bake cakes. And it tastes divine. #cooking 🍽️

I can't be the only one who needs David Byrne #TinyDesk to beat away the Blue Monday. I want the big suit, but the blue institutional wear is also doing it for me. It's like Byrne and Devo swapped wardrobes....

Finding out many MAGA socials posters are foreign accounts is actually kind of comforting, like maybe Americans aren't as bad as I had imagined them. Perhaps, if given different (truthful) stimulus, they wouldn't vote the way they did.
But then, I remember Republicans during W's era.

What the ever loving fuck?! Took less than 1 year of an anti-vax head of HHS to go from "people should have options" to "no vaccinations for anyone."
Vote better, people.
A year ago, flyers promoting vaccines were prevalent across the Navajo Nation.

But as Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has put his stamp on federal immunization policy, the Indian Health Service’s messaging on immunizations has taken a stark turn.

Officials have deemed terms like “immunizations” and “vaccines” risky “buzzwords” that require approval to be used in social media posts, pamphlets and presentations.

Did a full yoga set in the 45 minutes of sun that graced my part of NL this afternoon. All 26 poses--something I hadn't been able to do since 2023 due to #longCOVID and a bout of frozen shoulder. The road of recovery is long and imperfect, but worth traveling.

Josh Johnson's Tuesday set drop is one of the few videos that I set my schedule to. The other is #taskmaster, which I adore. This is how good his comedy and insight/take on the world is.
If you haven't checked him out yet, do it. This set isn't US-centric, so everyone can enjoy.

Old guard democratic party leadership would rather sink the ship then let progressives steer it. Fuck you. And you wonder why you are losing traction with voters. They want progressive policies that improve their lives b/c more status quo is getting them nowhere fast.

Catching up on the new ep of #taskmaster and who do I see on the podcast to discuss it? None other than @pftompkins.bsky.social! Please tell me they bought his pitch to be the exotic, old contestant (his words, not mine) on a future line up.

Made baked kabocha korokke for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at a healthy croquette that wasn't fried: crunchy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the outside and absolutely delicious.
Pan toasting the panko & a few minutes on the broiler at the end definitely helped. #cooking

Wendell and Wild (2022) is a great watch on Netflix. Stop motion animation modernized and everything about it feels different than other movies in that genre: the characters, the music, the cultural references, the interpersonal dynamics, and the way kids process trauma. So freshingly good.
