Someone ought to remind the new leader of Hamas that Chechen resistance ended with Chechnya being destroyed and subjugated, ex-rebels becoming Putin's henchmen and Chechen soldiers fighting for Russia. The case for minimal historical literacy has never been stronger

"The problem with AI isn't that it can do your job. It can't. The problem with AI is that your MBA-brained boss's boss doesn't know how your job works and thinks AI can do your job at fractions of a penny on the dollar, and hears the siren song of 'maximize shareholder value'."

MBA-brain is real.

“The idea that taking walks, reading things unrelated to your research, and hanging out with strangers in a campus pub should be considered part of the serious process of thinking, but might well meet with skepticism in practice.”

Yes. This response looks almost exactly like the response to the killing of Soleimani, and is clearly an attempt by Iran to Do Something™️ without necessarily causing escalation. Now we wait and see how the US reacts.

Iran telegraphing its launch against a US base in Qatar—0 casualties—suggests Iran is more interested in saving face, and wants to avoid escalation.

US could take that as an offramp, as when Iran fired on a US base in Iraq in 2020 and killed 0.

But unlike 2020, Israel is actively bombing Iran now.

Ahh, advertising. Twas always gonna end like this, wasn't it.

🧵IR scholars, let's start a thread of what we know that's relevant for a US attack on Iran. Won't change any minds, but might help us teach this crisis and learn new angles. Please add (incl. your own work!), forgive/correct omissions. Nobody can cover everything and it's great to find new work. 1/?

Peace is a very great good and war a terrible evil to be entered into at last resort. Given what we did to Libya, contrasting with North Korea, (and the unilateral cancelling of the first Iran deal for petty internal politics reasons) the Western world has defacto incentivised nuclear proliferation.
