Fun Fact: Ever heard of the GO Transit Hamilton-Guelph Line? This line was proposed in 1989 by the Think Rail Group, as part of a larger proposal for transit in Ontario.

This line would've travelled from the City of Hamilton to Guelph, linking 3 cities together in the western half of the GTHA.

Fare-capping is a fantastic policy that we need in Toronto.

Spending too much on TTC fares? Can't afford to buy an expensive monthly pass at the start of every month? The TTC is considering implementing fare capping next year, and we're happy to see it!

Read through for a breakdown of what fare capping could mean for the TTC ⬇️

1/7
graphic showing a calendar representative of monthly fare capping - with some days marked off with a red dollar sign, and days towards the end of the month marked off with a green "free" sign.

Text: With monthly fare capping, you could ride for free after 40 trips. Never spend more than $132 per month on the TTC! A daily transit user could save $72 per month on transit without the upfront cost of a monthly pass.

Nice to see the TTC in Toronto recommending fare capping. #guelphtransit introduced it here in July 2023. It has increased both revenue and ridership numbers in #Guelph, while also making it easier, more accessible, and affordable for anyone to take the bus in our city.
ttcriders.bsky.social
Thrilled to see the TTC recommend fare capping as part of the Ridership Growth Strategy, something that we have long called for as a common-sense solution to making transit more affordable!

This would replace an expensive monthly pass, that you need to pay for upfront on the same day as your rent.
