Well, detaining Hasan only made him more influential to his audience, and trying to interrogate a professional streamer for hours, as an exhausting tactic, is futile.
“The reason they’re doing [this] is to try to create an environment of fear, to try to get people like myself... to shut the fuck up,” Piker said on a stream recounting the details of the incident.

"They straight up tried to get something out of me that I think they could use to basically detain me permanently"

MA folks, today is be a great day to call the governor and ask her what the plan is to keep ALL Massachusetts residents safe in the face of kidnappings by masked men who refuse to show warrants. *Everyone* is endangered by this. Contact info here: www.mass.gov/orgs/governo...

A true scandal. One of the biggest free speech violations of our lifetimes and yet the people who screamed about free speech on campus for the past decade were either responsible for the violation (Trump, GOP) or ran cover for it and enabled it (Bari Weiss, Fox, etc).
BREAKING: Federal judge in Vermont orders that Rumeysa Ozturk be released from detention "immediately" and on her own recognizance with no travel restrictions.

i think the biggest public relations coup AI boosters scored was calling it “AI.” people genuinely think it is an intelligence, and that when they query it, it is providing reasoned answers
it's jolting how little AI skepticism has reached the general public. i've had many acquaintances ask whether i use AI for research and seem shocked when i tell them it's completely useless for that purpose. my wife recently told her colleagues about hallucinations and it was news to all of them.

This part just sends me:
“Someone just drew a line…..I’m a very artistic person.” Just the insult of talking about another country’s borders and physical integrity this way with the PM sitting right there trying not to leap out of his chair. It’s just indecent.

seems like trump mainly uses “low IQ” to describe black people. of a piece with his birtherism and his insistence that there are specific, low-wage “black jobs” that must be protected from immigrants
I listened to President Trump call Rep. Jasmine Crockett a "low IQ individual" and I realized I had heard that before, so put the question to ChatGPT.

I was just told that I have to remove “climate” from the title of an ongoing grant if I want to keep it. And publications from that grant cannot include “climate” and other forbidden words. I can’t believe I’m writing this from the United States of America. #AcademicSky
Just received an email saying that it's not advisable to include the following words in future applications for research funding to the US DOT. Here we are.

There is an entire political movement that believes the statement “if you work full-time in America, you should be able to pay your bills and have a savings account with your paycheck” is radical.

We must come to an agreement that it’s not radical to demand that.
