We have a new preprint out, with Teresa Schuhmann, Alex Sack and Catherine Tallon-Baudry.

I think our findings give some interesting leads on the various mechanisms underlying visceral influences on the motor system and how we conceptualize interoception as a whole.

🫁❤️New preprint out: The social, decoupled self

We show effects of interpersonal synchronization of physiological rhythms on intrapersonal cardiorespiratory coupling: when we sync our breathing, our breathing–heart rhythms decouple, with a perturbed phase-relationship

The social, decoupled self: interpersonal synchronization of breathing alters intrapersonal cardiorespiratory coupling
People synchronize their periodic behavioural and physiological rhythms with each other during social interaction. While this interpersonal synchronization has largely been associated with positive ef...

Jane Goodall has died.

She was truly a beacon of light in this world.

I had the good fortune of seeing her speak shortly before COVID arrived. She showed such warmth, compassion, integrity, and intelligence.

Jane, the animals thank you for your selfless work.

Open postdoc position👈
We have an open position, starting early 2026, to work on an exciting project aiming at better understanding the role of thalamo-cortical brain oscillations in perception with a comparative, cross-species (animal-human) component based on electrophysiology (incl. scalp EEG).

Traditional methods for rating emotion often miss the dynamic, moment-to-moment nature of feelings. We designed a tool to capture this continuous affective experience in real-time during dynamic emotional stimulation.

Please know that this is Trump scaremongering.

There is no good scientific evidence linking paracetamol (Tylenol) to autism.

A 2024 Swedish study of 2.4 million births found no relationship whatsoever between exposure to paracetamol in utero & subsequent autism.

This narrative is so tiring and shockingly alive in 2025. Same goes for extreme nausea which in many countries is often still not treated (because it’s simply “part of it”) despite many completely safe drugs being on the market.

That concludes my first time doing back to back conferences and my first time conferencing while pregnant. I’d like to urge my future self to be a bit less ambitious with planning, but it was lovely seeing so many new and familiar faces. I’m now more than ready to retreat back into the woods.
