Climate change is real and we have time to do something about it.

Want to get the data out of a PDF figure? As in, the actual data – not a rough trace-along-the-lines version?

I made an app you might like: adamkucharski.github.io/pdf2plot/

It all started a few years ago... 🧵

So, if I wanted to migrate my company's email from gmail to a Canadian service, which is best? Do any of the Canadian services, like Typewire, offer alternatives to apps like Google Drive?

The Wrightwood community in San Bernardino County was hit by severe thunderstorms that triggered mudslides, rockslides and debris flows, leaving homes and cars buried in the muck.

@drewbrayshaw.bsky.social and I spend more time discussing which Murderbot character best represents us than we'd like to admit. I'm Dr. Mensah. He's ART.
ART had stopped pinging me but I knew it was listening. It’s like having a malign impersonal intelligence that is incapable of minding its own business reading over your shoulder.

I'm watching the propane tank across the street from the El Nopal Restaurant. at 9:45 am, it was above the water. By 10:09 am, it is floating and starting to move in the floodwaters.

I really hope the people are safe and evacuated in time.

Commuters and travellers should also realize this also means that there is a modest chance that Highway 1 is closed tomorrow between Abbotsford and Chilliwack. So plan accordingly and monitor what is happening.

Because of a risk of flooding, avoid travel in the Fraser Valley unless necessary until the atmospheric river passes and water levels subside. Highway 1 and other provincial roadways could close with little or no notice. Follow DriveBC.ca for the latest info. #BCFlood

Dotty asked me to remind everyone that it's the CBC's annual fundraiser for foodbanks BC. While she would prefer that we undergo the systemic change needed to ensure everyone's basic needs are met, she recognizes our capacity to care for one another until that shift happens. cbc.ca/kindbc

Fun fact, Drew is the global number one observer of watermelon snow, according to iNaturalist. I learned that on today's hike.
Dog hike up Zoa with @talleryne.bsky.social. lots of flowers, no nasty bugs yet, firm snow, no smoke, nice temperature, other hikers sociable & courteous on trail, everyone having a chill time... Pretty much perfect. Dog liked rolling in the snow too.

In Nov 2020 a landslide into a glacial lake in BC triggered a tsunami & glacial lake outburst flood & eventually a large turbidity current in the sea. In this @jgrearthsurface.bsky.social paper, we look at the sea surface turbidity that resulted.
