Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

I wanna say a word here on behalf of the people who run social media accounts for institutions, companies & famous people. By and large, they are not "interns." The bigger the client, the more they get paid, because managing the waves of public opinion is tricky, and the amount of abuse is unending.

For many groups, particularly Black people, America has always been an authoritarian country.
lmorgenbesser.bsky.social
The speed by which America collapsed into authoritarian rule is the most shocking thing. Faster than other contemporary cases. Faster than the alleged “dictator’s playbook” suggests. So fast we *shouldn’t* call it “competitive authoritarianism.” It may be worse than that.

We get, instead, complicated views of Black women, from generations of resistance (Perfidia's lineage) to rest seekers (Deandrea and the sisterhood) to isolation and absence (Willa with Bob). Sometimes, the introduction can be so hard for some that it overpowers the balance. That's my opinion.

That's the thing. Black actresses aren't cast in auteur films. You don't see them in Coppola, Scorsese, the Andersons, Nolan, etc. When we're introduced to Teyana and JunglePussy, it's a big entrance -- loud and bombastic -- that triggers the stereotype right away. However, the film pushes away.

Which four films on this list are you most anticipating in October? 👀

"Inherent Vice" had outlandish characters that were amped-up stereotypes that I was ready to see this again in OBAA. I don't think it's bad here as far as portraying Black women when there's a balance between one extreme (Teyana and JunglePussy) and another (Regina, Chase and the sisterhood).

There has been a sense of "otherness" around the billing and marketing of OBAA that I felt that the Black women were an afterthought before I saw this. Regina, Teyana and Chase were interviewed separately or in their group. As for the film, their characters aligned more with what I expected. (1/2)

I performed in "The Untold Stories of Gaza" with my Persian dance classmates over the weekend at Theatre O in Boulder. The performances have raised over $10,000 for Palestinian families. CBS News Colorado covered the event. www.cbsnews.com/colorado/vid... (1/2)
