My two main insecurities about writing are:
1. can I write something like this again
2. can I write something not like this again

I don't know what to do on the rest evenings. I won't write because I don't have the mental clarity, but then the evening feels empty.

Not sure what is more frustrating: that there are still a lot of writers who are trying to craft a non-novellike novel; or the fact that many of them are succeeding with that.

One more data point on "writing poetry is not as good for your mental health as writing prose."

Finished polishing the manuscript the 3rd time, it isn't cathartic anymore, but hey, I get to write new text again.

Watch software developers. I mean *really* watch them.

When they say they spent an hour "writing code", they've actually spent most of that hour *reading* code and *thinking* about it.

Wanna boost your dev productivity?

* Write code that's easier to understand
* Get better at understanding code

Looks like I'm getting better at not finishing books.

There was this Christmas which started as usual, my wife and I figured out the presents cooperatively. However, on Christmas Eve there were some presents under the tree that I haven't heard about, and somehow the kids knew that they have to thank mom for them.

We get the best results from "AI" coding assistants when we:

* Take small steps
* Test, review and refactor continuously
* Use version control to keep our code shippable
* Integrate continuously
* Cleanly separate concerns

If only there was somewhere we could learn these skills!

What is the point of writing if I can't write shit as silly as it gets?

I love how dancers talk about the body and moving. The metaphors, the paradoxes, just can't have enough of them.

You want a true life horror show?

The history of microbiology.

"Bob, these bugs are now resistant to ampicillin."

"Okay, but these other guys weren't even exposed to the drug. How are they resistant?"

"Gasp!"

"What?"

"They're sending the data to each other with genetic material fragments!"

Writing is sometimes like raising small children: there are things that make sense you, and you have to make sure that somehow it makes sense to them too; you don't do it by explaining or preaching, one of your best tools is cause and effect.

Working on a new codebase, new tech stack, new architecture, and after 2 weeks I start to feel the pain points. I guess in half a year I could make it easier working with this. But first thing first, I have to deliver some sort of functionality.

Just because I work fast with one technology in one domain, it doesn't mean I also work fast with another technology, in another domain. I mean, I will but first I need to learn the new tech stack and the new domain.

There's a *reason* why you neither know nor care that lots of other states were also created in the 1940s, Pakistan, for instance, but you think this one particular state, that just happens to be a refuge for a traditionally persecuted indigenous group, is still an open question, should it exist?
